I have a strong feeling that the majority of Big Purple users are 30-something straight white dudes with glasses, short, patchy beards and cartoon tshirts. You know, the kind that do the soyjack face as they do selfies of themselves holding greasy copies of the latest indie RPG game about butch black lesbian romances.

edit: to be clear, the “look” I described above is common in the world, just in combination with the “sensitive” performative woke male feminist trope it’s… awfully cringey

On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.

They actually skew a bit older, more to the mid-40's. Here's a post from a few months ago - the first poll was 2011, second was 2019. Doesn't look like they're getting enough new "young blood", the demographics skew a lot older in the second poll, telling me it's largely the same users still there just 8 years older.

I picture them as half scrawny soyjacks, and half fat neckbeards.

Quoting my own post because I'm narcissistic like that, but here are the two Age polls I was able to find:

Latest poll was from 2019 so tack on a couple more years onto these numbers.

This is unsurprising. I fit that 40-something demographic, and I stopped going to RPG.net sometime ~2003, about when the old World of Darkness was winding down. Things were only starting to get bad. Tangency was a snakepit, but it was pretty contained, and there was no banhammer just for supporting right wing views. In the intervening years, the place has become such a flaming garbage pit I can't imagine any new gamers going there without already being fully indoctrinated in the wokist cult.

I hate to say it but anyone younger uses reddit. I leave it to the reader to decide which site is worse.

Seriously? The youth are on reddit?

W...T...F... I thought it was going the way of facebook and only used by oldtimers too scared of new platforms.
That's what I thought too, I figured the youngin's were all on Discord.

(Which, if I understand correctly... is basically just a modern-day IRC? Funny how what's old is new again lol.)

Not to PL here, but I'm a young'un. Can confirm that most of us use Discord, and some of us use Reddit. And a very, very select few of us actually use IRC in that old "nostalgia" way.

When I played in-person games more often, most people used reddit resources and I assume they knew what discord was, but we didn't need it. The only forum anyone I knew used was the Giants in the Playground forum to get 3.5 charop builds. I can't remember anyone even mentioning RPGnet.

On Reddit you can at least sometimes find a small subreddit with a chill audience and reasonable moderators, as long as you steer clear of the big RPG subreddits. No chance for either on RPGnet where everything is under the thumb of the modclique and the user base that is left over after years of their ban filtration.

Reddit is more preferable, if only because communities are as diverse as they can be with the troon infestation. You don't need to really participate in Reddit posts to enjoy the content whereas with fora like RPGnet joining the conversation makes it better with the format.

Three-day ban for saying that a product is a bit on the expensive side. "HOW DARE YOU CONSOOM INCORRECTLY!"

Also look at the lovely strawman official reason, "Arguing Against Paying Creators". Nowhere did this guy say - or even imply - that creators shouldn't be paid. He just thinks the product is overpriced, the same way people comparison shop for literally everything else.

Hahaha that was from the Anime ban I mentioned a few pages back. Yeah I better go check my roof for damage from falling sky!
And a pair of 14-day bans for saying that an anime scene made them both feel like a "dirty old man". (Shocking, I know. Isn't that the whole point of anime?)

Those faggots really have a gift for sounding insufferably smug in their ban messages.

“Take three days off and a warning.”
If it makes it any more bearable, the mods take a tone that strongly suggests this is the most important thing in their lives, and that's just sad.

Wow, the other day they banned someone for quoting a Jewish website, now they're banning someone for being cheap...this whole website is giving me anti-Semitic vibes ngl :/
