Might I add that I find the original thread's premise rather stupid? The banned individual has a good point that most settings where magic is learned in academic scenarios make it so learning magic at all would inevitably mean most students would be capable of dangerous abilities. The students already have supernatural powers, might as well direct it into a healthy and controllable form.

If you actually have a life, you were probably unaware that Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed up at the White House today to beg for another 500 billion in aid money. He forgot he was no longer dealing with a shambling corpse and whatever empty suit managed to ooze their way into the Oval Office, instead sitting down with Trump and Vance. Things did not go well and Zelenskyy was ejected from the event. Keep in mind this is all on camera so there is an objective* record of what happened. With that in mind....

That's just the Reddit consensus, but you can't even get properly mad in the comments, because that places you before the eye of Sauron.

This all makes it sound like these people really believe Russia is going to be easily defeated because they're "the bad guy." With no consideration the manpower and nuclear capability of Russia. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not some Russia-stan, they could be beaten - my concern is always about the price.)

They sound like children playing at war.

"Fascism is an inherently weak and self-defeating ideology">>>>"Shooting all these Ruzzian orks will be a cakewalk with our superior western weapons systems"

Repeating your own propaganda is ok, just don't start believing it

Fascism is weak and self-defeating, but is also in danger of destroying our society from the inside at any minute. I think Umberto Eco said something about this.

I don't think even children would be this brainlessly delusional. They think it's some masterful Joker move or something that he took $500 billion and set it on fire after showing up dressed like some gay vatnik? It couldn't have been more disrespectful if he'd shown up in a Nike tracksuit and squatted down to drink vodka.

Russia controlled every city in Aghanistan and eventually pulled out after 10 years of getting hit by (American-supplied) mujahadeen fighters, the cost of which accelerated the collapse of the soviet union. They didn't use nukes then

Meanwhile in Ukraine, Russia has experienced 3x as many casualties in 3 years than they did the entire Afghan war. If they had infiinite manpower, they wouldn't be pulling out penal battalians and importing North Koreans.

Obvioiusly it won't be easy, but a Russian withdrawal is hardly a fantasy scenario either

The meeting was bizzarre, in the sense that it went normally until Zelensky criticized Putin's history of breaking prior deals. And THAT is what set off Vance

Transcript of the exchange that apparently offended him

J.D. Vance: For four years, in the United States of America, we had a president who stood up in press conferences and talked tough about Vladimir Putin, and then Putin invaded Ukraine and destroyed a significant chunk of the country. The path to peace and the path to prosperity is maybe engaging in diplomacy. We tried the pathway of Joe Biden, of thumping our chest and pretending that the president of the United States’ words mattered more than the president of the United States’ actions. What makes America a good country is America engaging in diplomacy. That’s what President Trump is doing.
Volodymyr Zelensky: He [Putin] occupied various parts of Ukraine in 2014. During that time, it was President Obama, then President Trump, then President Biden, and now it’s President Trump and he will stop him [Putin]. But during 2014, nobody stopped him. He just occupied and took. He killed people. From 2014 till 2022, the situation was the same—people have been dying on the contact line and nobody stopped him. We had a lot of conversations with him, including a bilateral conversation. As a new president in 2019, I signed with him a cease-fire deal alongside Macron and Merkel. All of them told me that he will never go. We also signed a gas contract with him. But after all of that, he broke the cease-fire. He killed our people, and he didn’t exchange prisoners. We signed the exchange of prisoners, but he didn’t do it. What kind of diplomacy, J.D., are you speaking about? What do you mean?

The mask is slipping. Mods are now openly admitting that the site is dying, and are blaming the users for it while threadbanning the guy who pointed out that their random acts of moderation weren't helping the place.

Couldn't happen to a nicer website.

The self-importance of the mods over there is mind-boggling. I can practically hear the condescension in that post. Shit, I can practically smell the cat piss.

Funny that their mantra when it comes to gaming is NO GATEKEEPING when they've gradually developed the most heavily gatekept site online. Funny how your site is in peril because you keep harping on about "the community not the site" but your median age is 55 and rising and no one wants to sign up to be relentlessly purity tested on their politics instead of playing elfgames.

And yeah, that video short thread was rough to read. Poor bastard thought he was going to be putting together le quirky tabletop gaming shorts and instead got to be the guest of honor at a lynch mob.

Edit: The Big Thread of Threads is the only part of the site worth archiving. Everything else can burn.

Zeea and his wife Arachne have also burnt out, and Modestly Bright (formerly Miss Atomic Bomb) has more or less replaced Shannon.

I think it's far too late for either of those things, given how you've driven away everyone else and your reputation is in the toilet. As of right now, they have less than 100 members online. I can't find any screenshots for comparison, but I know that's a pretty serious drop.

You modded so hard that everyone left, and now you don't have the traffic or money to stay afloat. Reap what you sow.

These people were irredeemable toxic faggots to everyone who walked in their door unless they were the trooniest troons or insane commies, to the point that in that very thread they're still bragging about chasing away anyone who wasn't a leftoid and still banning people who suggest that they weren't geniuses with their cliquish moderation. RPG.net used to be a really strong and popular site, but they've bled it to death in the end, an identical fate to everything that gets overrun by woke fart-sniffers.

Forums are a tough business since the medium itself is dying. They could learn from the few exceptions where the user base is growing, the technical infrastructure is mostly working, and things are on the up and up. What I'm saying is, it is time for RPGNet's owner to hire a new, competent administrator to fix the site. I am talking, of course, about Joshua Conner Moon. It is time.

Made me check out the thread since it seemed like it would provide a good illustration for why the site is failing. It was fascinating all right, but not entirely the way I expected. I thought it would be just "Fight the fash (my neighbor who doesn't want her daughters to shower with weird sex pests) to the last bullet", but no, it's actually a bunch of posters who think the best way to build this antifa coalition is to get Dick Cheney and the Koch brothers on board. (Never mind Cheney is close to death and the Koch brothers has been just one Koch brother since 2019.)

What's interesting to see is not just the willingness to include every right wing bogeyman to fight the fash (my neighbor who doesn't want her daughters to shower with weird sex pests), but also how dated these references are. These are examples of right wing factions a boomer or old gen X leftist would bring up around the early 2000s Iraq War protests. The Klan? Dick Cheney? Bill "trans rights" Kristol? Here's why the site is failing: all these posters are old, and there is not new blood coming in. It's an old folks' home with pronoun pins.

RPGNet literally right now.

I just always find it funny how these people convince themselves they're some huge untapped market, and then suddenly look around and go, "wait where is everybody?" It's the "fruit of the poisonous tree" fallacy they fall into every time. (and why everybody they have on their side must always be the best ever) They literally can't understand why the Right or even just normies realize at some point that sure I may dislike Musk about some stuff - even disapprove of his life choices - but he's helping out with a major goal of reducing the overbloated Federal Government so I'm all in favor of letting him cook and don't have to defend the other stuff I don't care about.

The majority of them are part of progressive circles and as such installs the latest progressive update like it's the latest version of Windows.

The problem is they believe that this means that because from their perspective things can only progress that they should always be on the cutting edge. They sneer at those people who are not sprouting the most recent talking points or objecting to some of the more extreme stances with the attitude that eventually they will be proven right in the long-term.

Which means when they find themselves relatively alone way out on the ledge they cannot understand why there are not more people out there. Everyone they know supports the latest thing, they are all the forerunners of an inevitable future so why is everyone else not looking down at the same long drop as they are?
