Surprised this sort of a thread doesn't exist here yet, but then again this may end up being unpleasantly controversial. So, the shit has hit the fan, society collapsed, and you made it through. You managed to survive the initial fallout with your life, and potentially friends and family, intact. You're now at the stage where you're rebuilding society, and you're the leader of a group of people. What rules are you implementing? How many people are in your group? How do you decide who gets to stay and who gets to leave? Is there a mandated religion? How do you handle marriage, pregnancies, and pregnancies out of wedlock, affairs? Do you take prisoners and, if so, what do you do with them? Are you trying to create a homogeneous society? What are your laws on prostitution, drugs, slavery?

Essentially, beyond just getting enough food to eat, how are you keeping your group together socially?

It will most likely be an autocratic system, as they work best for the smaller groups. Altought the typical system of assemblies would also work. All people that are willing to work within the system stay, all that don't, leave, regardless of past criminal record. A mandated religion is unenforceable depending on how fucked up the world is, but it is almost always prefferable to no religion at all.

Marriages can be done just like they are done currently, altough obviously with far more austere ceremonies. Pregnancies and pregnancies out of wedlock can be handled like they were in the past, you try to keep the family together and the woman as well-rested and in little danger as possible, and out of wedlock leads to a shotgun marriage. An affair should mostly be dealt with within the couple, but if things escalate, you can always exile both participants in the affair, dissolve the marriage, and allow the widow to remarry. Prisoners work in supplementary roles, and can be freed depending on their behavior. An homogeneous society is best if survival is the only thing in mind, but if you want ti try and restore the pre-catastrophe state, some divergence must be accepted. Prostitution, drugs, and slavery are banned, as they take otherwise useful people and reduce them to near uselesness.

That's right, this is the United States of Blacked, I am the supreme being, I make the rules so what I say goes! Uh, this is not the place to stand on your soapbox and complain about censorship and freedom of speech, cause the bottom line is, you don't have freedom of speech, this is my land!

Sobriety equals death.

I'm finding the nearest Mormon Enclave. I can hunt, shoot, do IT and low voltage electrical work, various handyman things, and an assortment of other things; at worst they'll turn me away for not having strong enough faith. I'm not much of a leader, even if I found myself in the position, I don't think I'd have too many people under me, not big on the charisma or silver tongue stuff.

That's pretty tough, because society only works as a giant machine where a lot of the cogs need to work, or else the collapse could be irreparable. Like none of the people in my group would know how to operate any machine at a powerplant, or how to build literally anything complex, because all the parts that make it up need even more machines or deep knowledge in several fields and disciplines (e.g: chemistry, engineering, etc); is this small group going to start to learn physics now, or electrical engineering? Or their kids are going to learn it by reading books?

Society would probably need to be built not from 0, but closer than you think. As a leader, in regards to the law, it would follow basic moral principles and lean heavily into proof and evidence in order to convict someone, very strict in regards to corruption and other crimes when they're actually proven. Unlike in current society, where you can go to jail for a false accusation, or actual criminals getting virtually no punishment.

No mandated religion, only law based on common sense morality, you can believe in whoever, but it will not affect other people's freedom.

There's way too many rules to think about for this and would probably make a wall-text, so for now that's the gist of it.

If you didn’t have community before SHTF then you won’t survive to the point to rebuild society. Which you won’t need to anyway, because that kind of collapse is a meme perpetrated by the government (and people like you) to reduce preparedness and increase reliance on the status quo by making preppers seem like insane stereotypes.

Tl;dr stfu and go make friends bc you won’t after the bombs drop

Only free white persons of good character need apply - just like the american founding fathers intended.

A global collapse would probably make it necessary to go through another industrial revolution for mankind to get back on track.
In the meantime, starvation would kill billions. There's just no way to keep up the current food production, let alone distribution, without the industrial base behind it.
So, in a way, that problem is self-limiting. With less food come fewer eaters.
Water purification wouldn't be too difficult to maintain for an isolated, but functioning community, so at least you wouldn't die of cholera.

I'm going to sound completely autistic for saying this, but go read Stephen King's The Stand for a fictional take on two different styles of community that arise after a total breakdown of society where 99% of humanity dies out in a matter of weeks. If you don't want to read a 1600 page book, hunt down the 70s era miniseries and watch that. At the height of COVIDiocy, it was the best entertainment out there.

Everything comes down to power availability - so learn to burn the coal.

Rule #1 is that coal burning is mandatory. If you want to survive, you need to burn coal. If you can't demonstrate your willingness to burn coal, you will not succeed.
