At first I thought, “Finally, someone with a logical point of view telling us what we already know in a somewhat mainstream newspaper.”

But then, I saw this:

He then gave this game “3 out of 4 stars” due to the fact that he thought it was creative to blend Reddit-tier humor into real life due to this video game.

And that’s when I decided to check his bio at the end of the article:

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Saints Row. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical student loans most of the jokes will go over a typical gamer's head. There's also The Saints's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into their characterisation- their personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Saints Row truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in The Saints's existential catchphrase "Get the fuck away from my friends" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

Considering WD1 & WD2 were not really bad, this is even worse. Even WD3, which is somewhat garbage can't compare to this. The only good thing in this game I can think of is customisation, but that alone doesn't make a game.

As cynical as so many Kiwis get about games, there are still a plethora of great ones available. Even if money's not a problem, why waste your time on something subpar? If you want a new game for your PS4, I'll gladly recommend:

• Yakuza 0
• Yakuza: Like a Dragon
• Judgment
• Dragon Quest XI
• Spelunky 2
• Bloodborne
• Persona 5
• Doom Eternal

These are just a smattering of games I've enjoyed over the past couple of years, and they're all on PS4. If you have any interest in any of those, and haven't played them, then I'd highly recommend you check them out instead.

I still need to get Yakuza 0, 7 and Judgment. I'm in the middle of Y3 right now. I brought the remastered discs with me overseas......and fucking forgot to bring Y6.

Old SR used to also be good at layering their character archetypes with unconventional or humorous details, like Kinzie being a giant fucking coomer (like most shut-ins) or Pierce being into kitchy karaoke. Gat being happily married is another example.

Kinzie bothered me a bit at first, because of Felcha Day being a red headed super hacker on Supernatural (and being insufferable), but I also have a red head fetish and Kinzie grew on me pretty quickly once I realised she wasn't as annoying as Felcha Day.
