If Mass Effect 4 tanks, they may very well be on the chopping block. What else do they even have left? Andromeda? KOTOR?
Mass Effect 4 only exists as doodles and post-it notes of ideas, it will never come out. It'll be a miracle for Dread Wolf to just metastasize and be shat out as whatever malformed slop it ends up being. There is no chance of Bioware existing beyond it and I'll still be surprised if they even last until shipping that turd

Are you telling me the teaser trailer they released using art assets from ME3 isn't proof that ME4 will soon be out? Madness.

He is a coping moron. One look at the fat retards in charge will tell you how they feel.
I think it's a little bit of both. Like how Volition can't even fart without Deep Silver's permission because that's just how the corporate hierarchy is in the video game industry, so DS had a lot to say when it comes to Volition's decisions, and Fl1ppy coping that perhaps the situation isn't hopeless, since he has been a fan of the series for years and interacted with Mike Watson himself, so he doesn't want to believe that Volition was already rotten and that Mike's hard work will be destroyed because of corporate bullshit.

I tried SR2 again for the first time in a while. I miss games with malls you can walk inside, it's a small thing I know, but something about being able to explore a large building interior gives me comfy nostalgic feelings. Especially when you can take the display car in the mall and drive it.

PSN plus has the remake as the free game for the month and I have no idea if im going to even play it.

"if" :story:

I wish they stuck to FreeSpace...
you really want a freespace by nu-saints devs...?

Indeed. Blackrock and Vanguard have not failed, they have achieved their goal: the destruction of the western companies. In the vidya world, Anita started it and Blackrock finished it.
there are plenty of others, they might not produce AAA goyslop but gaming will survive as long as people can do a game in their spare time or on a smaller scale that still provides entertainment.

all blackrock managed was imploding a shitty studio by a shitty publisher, which is run by one of the biggest companies in the industry and is now feeling the squeeze and starting to trim the fat, hence the nuking of volition. I just hope they're smart enough to understand they also need to take a hard look at deep silver and how shit they've been handling things in the past, but getting rid of some middle execs and other retards is less headline worthy.

the popular opinion on /v/ is that studios are finally folding because blackrock is pulling out of vidya. I think it's more likely because the economy is just garbage in general. but it is nice seeing the safety net for these losers is gone.
the next disaster to look forward to is hyenas. the hacks at creative assembly should start sending out their resumes now.
embracer nuked volition because a planned 2 billion dollar deal (apparently with the saudis) fell through, which is why they're now cutting the dead weight.

You're right, I totally forgot a lot of THQ IPs went to Nordic but yeh, chances of a sequel are nil, there are probably 3 people in the world that give a shit about the franchise and I'm one of them.
embracer still owns those IPs afaik, all was lost is a shitty dev. and fwiw embracer is one of the few big publishers that still does smaller games with old IPs (or at least did, they're probably more risk-averse now). I mean who the fuck expected a fucking titan quest expansion eleven years later? even if it was just to market check/generate hype for titan quest 2, it was a damn nice move.
what I don't know how their licensing deals look like, if they got some. if they're open to let small studios have a go at it for mutual benefit (established IP vs outsourced development), I wouldn't completely write it off. if there isn't an indie who as already taken it's place in everything but name only anyway.

So, not gonna lie, to celebrate Volition going under, I decided Fuck It and grabbed nu-Row from my local Walmart - it was $10 because they got sick of the Day 1 Edition taking up shelf space, and it’s not like the devs are getting my money from this - because I like Bad Games and haven’t played anything that’s made me hate myself lately.

The game has been refusing to install from the disc. That’s an almost impressive kind of fuck up. Least I’m only out $10 if this dumpster fire want’s one last laugh.

Both SR1 and 2 were amazing games. The Third isn't as good, but I still gave it a try and I still thought it was fun.
I preferred 3 & 4 for the wacky sandbox antics and over-the-top offensive nonsense (I never could get into GTA and SR1 & 2 felt too much like GTA to me).
But it is truly amazing that Volition managed to get classic and wacky Saints Row fans to agree on hating this disaster of a reboot.

Ex-Volition employees just can't seem to win because Embracer is reportedly looking to sell Gearbox.

Embracer reportedly considering selling Borderlands developer Gearbox

UPDATE: Gearbox reportedly tells staff "there are many options under consideration".

UPDATE 5.40pm: Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reports that Gearbox has today emailed employees confirming Embracer Group is, at the very least, considering parting ways with the Borderlands studio - although a specific course of action is yet to be decided on.

"The base case is that Gearbox remains a part of Embracer," Gearbox chief communications officer Dan Hewitt told staff in an email seen by Bloomberg. "However, there are many options under consideration, including Gearbox's transfer, taking Gearbox independent, and others. Ultimately, we'll move ahead with whichever path is best for both Gearbox and Embracer."

"Nothing has been decided yet," Hewitt added, "but there will be a lot of speculation in the coming weeks."

ORIGINAL STORY 3.19pm: Gearbox is reportedly the latest studio to be affected by Embracer Group's restructuring efforts.

In June, Embracer announced a "comprehensive restructuring programme" to help recover from its large spending spree over recent years and a 40 percent drop in share price following a report of a failed "major strategic partnership" with Savvy Games Group, which is backed by the Saudi Arabian government.

As part of the restructuring, Saints Row developer Volition Games was shut down "effective immediately" at the end of last month. A new report from Reuters claims that Borderlands developer Gearbox will be one of the next studios Embracer sheds.

Embracer is reportedly working with investment banks Goldman Sachs and Aream & Co to explore the option of a sale, and sources say the company has already received "interest from third parties" in acquiring Gearbox.

Share prices in Embracer have since turned positive following the news.

Gearbox was acquired by Embracer in 2021. Sales of its most recently developed game, New Tales from the Borderlands, were low according to publisher Take-Two, but fellow Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina's Wonderlands exceeded Gearbox's expectations and CEO Randy Pitchford said "future experiences" were already in development a year ago. As a publisher, Gearbox is set to release Hyper Light Breaker and Homeworld 3 in early 2024.

Even though I fucking hated the Calypso Twins and the writing overall I thought BL3 was pretty good.

That was like seven years ago though. Has Gearbox made a single good game since then?
