It's like there's a filter. Character models from 1 to 2 look uglier in my opinion.

Always maintained that SR2's artstyle paled compared to SR1. SR2's is very washed out and plastic looking.

Also...this greentext hurt to read and that "milennial power fantasy" bit shows just how out of touch they are. That last bit is fucking ridiculous too. Enjoy bankrupting yourselves, I guess.

The boss from Stillwater probably had massive student loan debt, but did he give a fuck? No. That fucking psycho tried to pull a million out of an ATM.

That was the best part about the series from my point of view.

Johnny Gat had this huge fucking rep, and along comes Random Dude #8123412.

Who turns out to be some unbeatable, unkillable psychopath with superpowers and who heals in fucking seconds or by scarfing down an energy drink and two hamburgers that he crams into his mouth like Tess Holiday with an unfarted sheet cake.

It's like he escaped from some Corp or Military lab, didn't even know how to fucking speak yet, ran into Johnny Gat and the Saints and went "This must be what normal people's lives are like" then ran in with a machinegun in each hand with bullet holes magically healling.

We know he got rub and tugs, is up on fashion, and was aiming for a liberal arts degree. And he'll absolutely murder the fuck out of anyone who gets in his way.

I did like the retcon that he didn't say much in 1 because he was scared shitless, that was some good writing.

What's really upsetting is Gat Out of Hell was just 2015, how have things fallen so far since just 2015!?

I said it once, I'll say it again. Saints Row IV was a great game with the superhero direction, great writing, lore connection, amazing soundtrack and ultimate freedom in an open world. One of the best open world games I've played yet.

Was the world recycled? Yes. Were the puzzles annoying? Definitely. Did it deviate greatly from its original source material? Yes. Were fighting aliens compared to gangs not as interesting? Sure.

But SRIV is a testament to meta writing and having the flexibility and freedom to go crazy for one last hurrah. Anybody who's a fan of superheroes, open worlds or comedies should get it a try.

All those traits you've mentioned about Saints Row are in full effect in IV, aside from the urban gangs.

I really enjoyed IV as well.

They just kept paring shit back. Customization in 2 was fantastic. 4 even cut the god damn WATER. Yeah the water missions in 2 sucked ass, but that egg hunt on the water in 2 was one of my favorite experiences on the 360 platform at all.

Oh yeah, I loved finding all the crazy Easter eggs out in the water as well.

It really does blow my mind that we got a "real" SR entry as recently as 2015, but now look at the state of it.

Things were already very Woke in 2015, but if things could have stayed at 2015 levels I could have lived with it, but they only tripled on everything that made Woke awful and here we are.

2006 was a magical time.

I think what makes the 2000s make a little more sense is to look at the wider context of what they followed, the 1990s was very politically correct in a way that sometimes resembled today, but after a while of that people got sick of it and flaunted being politically incorrect throughout the 2000s, but then the Big Brother of social media came along and suddenly politically correctness got a shot in the arm.

The thing of it is, there was still an obvious line to be crossed even in 2006, like the Michael Richards incident, but it had to be something extreme like that, people just didn't walk on eggshells like today, what was wrong with that? Why the extreme thin skin of today.

It's counterintuitive too because Woke only inspires a backlashes on the opposite extreme, hence the rise of the Alt Right, letting people just blow off some steam on occasion is what's best for everyone being able to actually get along, which is why you had a healthier equilibrium back then.

fucking hell these guys really took a handful of blue pills and shoved them right up their assholes. Honestly, it feels weird to wax nostalgic for Saints Row 3, the game still doesn't feel like it was that long ago to me, but we're talking a decade ago and with how radically different it is than the reboot, drives home how long ago it was, but it's still weird to think about.
