First time I'd ever seen one in the flesh. Walked by around 7:30, saw people loading pickup trucks. Apartment's a small one-bedroom in a lower-end complex. Rent's about $1700/month. New owner jacked up the rents, used to be more like $1000/month.
Came back a couple of hours later, finishing the morning walk. Noticed loading still going on, saw a black-and-white county sheriff's car. Deputy was quietly standing by as stuff came out of the apartment. For such a small place, the tenants had a lot of stuff. Not only were trucks being loaded, but a good deal of possessions were outside.
This morning walked by again. People were gone, but still a lot of stuff around the apartment. Took a look at the wreckage of some people's lives. Headboard, endboard, and box spring of a queen-slze bed. Fan. Some wire shelving. A small Red Bull circular cooler, as found in a store. Car battery. More items, nothing really notable. Rained yesterday, some stuff got wet. Wondered if the tenants would come back and get their things, and if someone would help themselves to those items in the meantime. Fan looked pretty good.
The eviction notice was taped to a window. Looked at it. This complex gets a number of evictions. Last year several Romanian Gypsy families got the heave-ho. Wonder why they were even let in the country. Nasty-looking people. They, or at least their kids, threw trash all around.
Just like a picture, possessions can say a thousand words. Yesterday they told me of people who were basically pack rats, lived on the margins of society and no longer could pay the rent. Not people I would want to know. This complex gets mostly lower-end tenants.
Guess the evicted people have found somewhere to live, least until their next eviction. Imagine the apartment is now empty. It'll be cleaned up, painted, fixed as needed, and made ready for some more "winners".
Just some stuff I observed and then pondered for a while yesterday.
