💼 Careercow SHiFT / @shiftposting - Angriest speedrunner on earth. 20,000 hours spent playing one SpongeBob game. Frequently rages until his voice gets blown out.

Big ups to our boy shift for breaking the world record. Intense competition in this category between shift and his own sanity. Cant wait for the sub 40 run in 2028!

2028 is not even outrageous as a guess considering the run only got less than 5 seconds faster in 9 months.
some actual strat hunting is going to be required which ive never seen SHiFT do

Forgive me if this is incorrect....
I believe he just got the world record for Any%, beating himself. ( 40:58.7 )

apologies for no clip; i don't have any clipping software, but I imagine the run will be uploaded to speedrun.com(?)

Here's his world record run, on his channel:

Unholy piece of cringe posted by some brony in the Shift Discord.

Violence bros...? (He did this after failing to get the tiki in the ski ball machine. Sadly no audio, muted before the sandy boss.)

Sorry for the double post. Also gotta say it sucks how much he mutes now.

I've only seen a couple clips of this guy. Is he basically just the SpongeBob speedrunning version of BossManJack?

I think of him as a speedrunner version of DSPGaming and WingsofRedemption combined he has the behavior of DSP and he has the crashing out of Wings pre surgery. While I can respect the grind it is still a kids game and you don't always have to strive to be perfect. I've seen other speedrunners mess up and just stop and start over again like its no big deal but not this guy most of his streams are like 2 hours of him practising the same trick 30 times or he attempts a run that barely breaks the 10 minute mark and when he does attempt a run that gets on his feet he will mess up crash out and start the whole cycle all over again.

Does he really only do Battle For Bikini Bottom runs? He plays nothing else? Why doesn't he try SpongeBob: The Movie Game for new runs or something? It's basically a sequel that runs on the same game engine. Or just try different 3D platformers if that's your style of game. I would imagine raging at the same SpongeBob game all the time would get really tiresome fast. He already has the world record. What is he trying to accomplish? Speedrunning ain't worth killing yourself over.

He unironically hated Movie for a while, but he's done marathons where he only plays Movie (and other shovelware games based off cartoons) for weeks straight.

lol its already midway through the year and he hasn't announced another sub a thon so I'm wondering if he's gonna skip it this year the last one he did on Christmas wasn't as successful as the ones he did in 2022 and 2023

I'd honestly be down to watch him do some Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures rage runs. That game has a bunch of issues and would be entertaining to see him try to pull some runs on it.

He wouldn't have a thread here if he was thinking as rationally as you would like him to. Since his goal is to be "THE Spongebob BfBB Guy" and to keep lowering the time it takes to finish the game, he said multiple times already in some heated rants that he cannot quit playing the game even for a week, since it will fuck up his muscle memory for 1-frame tricks etc.

That's also why he gets very angry when a controllerbreaks. Not only does a replacement cost like 80 dollars or something iirc, he has to "break in" the new controller to get a feeling for it or something. It's an endless cycle of suffering.

But I liked your comparison to BossManJack, I feel that's in essence what most speedruns boil down to nowadays, hoping for that one run where you are in the zone, or hoping for good RNG. I think the most soul-sucking speedrun I have informed myself about was Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories.
Got the wrong starter deck? Restart
Got some bad drops from duels? Restart
Enemy got his strongest monster onto the board on the first round? Restart
Bricked hand in the final 6? Restart

What is SHiFT's first name? I've never seen anybody ever refer to him as anything other than "shift".

Some Discord fags think his name is Damien. I don't think there's any substantial proof but it's the only lead on his real name.

I think he still hates the speedrun strats and some runners for Movie. It's genuinely a less interesting speedrun that BFBB, there's no way to increase movement speed and several sliding levels have to be played more than once. Just kind of slower and not very interesting. That answers just why he doesn't run Movie (outside of special events). As for why he's obsessed with BFBB, and will never ever switch up games, I don't think anyone can answer.
