I don't get it either, Shift honestly stays in his own lane. He doesn't really politisperg either. sometimes he make a comment making fun of right wingers or left wingers, but really most time he just spends zoned out on the game or doing "back in my day" spiels in his early years of speedrunning.

The "back in my day" spiels give me the impression that he slightly ego-trips as a "tortured artist" for being the WR runner of his game. Whenever he talks about how he won't be like other streamers pivoting from speedrunning to challenges/randomizers, he's conveying that he's implicitly better by not being a burnout. When he talked about how he could be raking in money by speedrunning Mario/Zelda but he chooses not to, he is trying to convey that he is a REAL speedrunner because the game he runs is not a game everyone played at some point in their life. The tard rages also feed into this. Look how TORTURED he is when a run gets one minor set back! That's the toll he pays by being THE BEST to ever run his game.
I don't envy his current situation, but if streaming is such a shitty, annoying thing to do he could always just stop doing it. Oh wait, where would the money to sit at home all day and play video games come from? Well shoot, nobody told me a job was supposed to be fun. Streaming sounds like a fun job. But then you're making your relaxing hobby into something you have to do. Certainly playing the same SpongeBob game every single day for a decade doesn't sound that enjoyable to me. Especially when you force yourself to do insane tricks just to play it the fastest. At that point I'd rather just have a normal job, at my job doesn't make me rage for hours. Then I can play video games for fun after.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble but Star Speedrun is talking about his own speedrun, he is not talking about Shift here. He mentions le raging at Mermalair sock and Larry Slide, so I went and checked those sections of his run and it was very gay and performative. @Null said on MATI that he thinks Shift is doing it for views and clout which I fully disagree with on the basis Shift wouldn't have had several months of completely muted streams completely killing his channel and making him lose the favorable 70/30 revenue split with Twitch (lol).
