At 11:30 AM in Nara, Japan, Shinzo Abe was assassinated in the middle of a public speech. The first shot missed, but the second shot reached his heart. Despite receiving multiple blood transfusions, he unfortunately passed away some hours later from blood loss. Here is a large gallery consisting of footage of the incident, as well as some aftermath footage.

The shooter was this 41 year old Hideo Kojima lookalike named Tetsuya Yamagami, who killed him with a blunderbluss that holds a resemblance to the scattergun used by Scout in TF2. As of now he is in custody in Kyoto. His motivations according to this video was that he initially wanted to kill the leader of an unspecified religious group that his familiy was affiliated with, and chose to kill Abe as he believed he was associated with this group. It's speculated that this group is the Unification Church. Although he was part of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, he left in 2005 and was currently working as a forklift operator. His knowledge of making weapons came from articles he found online. Here's a moment of him firing his gun:

Much of the blame of Abe's death can also be pinned on his incompetent security. It's not the fact that there's so few of them (the point of the event was that the public was supposed to be close to Abe), but the fact that whoever was there was just shit at their job. Other than the fact that they look about as imposing as Steve Urkel, they're also brilliant tacticians, choosing to rise up their briefcases as protective shields instead of actually getting Abe away from the line of fire.

Former Prime Minister Abe being shot by a gun and in a state of cardiac arrest during a speech in Nara City​

At around 11:30 am on the 8th, former Prime Minister Abe, who was giving a speech in Nara City, collapsed. There is also information that he was bleeding and fell down and was shot with a gun, and the Nara Prefectural Police Headquarters is proceeding with confirmation.

According to the fire department, former Prime Minister Abe seems to be in a state of cardiac arrest.

At around 11:30 am on the 8th, Prime Minister Abe, who was giving a speech near Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Nara City, collapsed.

According to an NHK reporter who was interviewing the site, he heard a sound like a gunshot.

It means that the police secured the identity of one man in the field.

Information that he was shot in the chest and carried by an ambulance​

According to an official of the Liberal Democratic Party Abe faction, former Prime Minister Abe was given a street speech in Nara Prefecture on the morning of the 8th, and there was information that he was shot in the chest and carried by an ambulance.

Was it shot with a shotgun?​

According to police officials, former Prime Minister Abe appears to have been shot from behind with a shotgun.

Currently, lifesaving measures are ongoing, but his condition is unknown.

Hope he pulls through. The fact that the biggest political blemish that I can recall about him was some real estate scandal really points to him being decent as a politician.

Aside from being a conservative and the whole "declining birthrate" thing, I haven't heard anything bad about him either.
