Due to the recent influx of new users, it's inevitable that we would get a lot of bad threads because people fail to "use the search function" or "lurk moar". The What If section suffers the most since we prided on its free-for-all discussions. To get to the point, I think we need stricter rules for this section and/or need to make existing rules a lot more apparent (e.g. make the fonts in the red box bigger, rename the Almanac to "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING").

Here's a guideline for the What-If section:

1. Lurk moar - That way, you have time to distinguish between good threads and bad threads.

2. Use the search function - It's likely that the question you have was already answered. We prefer it if you necro a thread (provided you have something interesting to say) than to make a redundant duplicate. If a mod notices a duplicate, they should merge it quickly before people make a big deal about it.

3. Refrain from making What-ifs that are gross (e.g. Chris's body functions, sexual fetishes, etc.). We don't need to know about your diaper fetish.
Example: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2022

4. Don't make spergy threads. Just don't. If you simply MUST sperg, use this thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2467
Example: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3285

5. Before you post a What-If, answer it with "He'd shit himself and do nothing" or "great thread". If those are the only worthwhile answers you're going to expect, don't post it or rather, post it in the Random What-If? Thread (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=753) or this one (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2467)

6. If you seriously (and I mean seriously) feel that your What-If will provoke some interesting discussion/hypotheticals, then by all means post away. If you're just trying to be funny, again, the sperg thread is a great place to let out your inner sperg.

I apologise if this thread came across as redundant since most of these guidelines are already in the rules or are just common sense but I felt like they need to be stated again. I think the 5th advice would be very useful. Feel free to add more suggestions or delete/lock this if you so choose.

Why are people not reporting these posts? It's like everyone takes issue with stuff I'm not seeing because I don't check the what-if forum, but nobody bothers reporting the posts.

That's a good point, Null. I think the reason why people hesitate to report is because they think the function only applies to serious stuff like harassment/spam.

Way ahead of you. I've expanded the criteria for reporting a post so people feel more comfortable using it.

Now we won't have to see a dozen "post contains serious threats" reports per day by CatParty!

All "what if?" threads are shitty. I thought that was the entire point of the sub forum.
I don't expect the What-If threads to be thought-provoking or serious but the recent ones were pretty bad by What-If standards. They could at least be (remotely) more interesting than "What if Chris worked at Tacobell?" and remotely funnier than the unfunny Tranny Hooker one. Most importantly, the new people must READ THE RULES BEFORE POSTING.

I think the shitty what-if threads should be merged into one big shitty thread. Call it the "Shitty what if questions thread"

That way everyone will sperg in one topic and not the entire subforum.

Although yes I think using the search function should be emphasized, it's been occurring lately that people are reposting what if questions only to get linked to a prior thread.

We already have a thread for that. It's used very frequently.

and generally funnier than the threads that pop up

In an ideal world, I'd just get rid of "What if?" because for every good thread, there's 99 spergy topics or variations of the same theme. I mostly set it up as a service to /cow/ as they'd get a lot of "What if?" posts there and i wanted to satisfy a demand. I'd get rid of it but I think a lot of people like to ponder these sort of things, especially as there isn't an awful lot of new Chris stuff to talk about or everything that's been analyzed has pretty much been analyzed from every possible angle.

If you feel a post is bad, by all means report it.

what about a stickied "what if" thread? just one general dumping ground. it is very rare that topics get longer than two pages.

We have a "Random What If?" which was my intent but I guess a lot of people feel think that threads like "What if Chris liked my favorite anime?" merits its own thread.

Or do you mean one in Discussion (i.e. the regular Chris board)?

yeah just one in discussion and dump the subforum. it is rare we get a good what if like the temple grandin one. it's usually just people trying too hard to think of funny situations to put chris in. not to mention people seem to keep asking the same what if's over and over. it'd be less threads to merge.

What if Chris shit himself during gay sex while watching an obscure piece of media only I care about.

Discuss.

I'm not going to be specific, but I think a few of those shitty threads are done intentionally. The posters knows that it will get locked but they want a few cheap laughs.

Why do we need to invent scenarios for Chris to be in? Isn't he interesting enough on his own?
