Should you join the military?

This isn't a question of whether a nation should have a military or not - it needs to for it to be considered a nation. This is the question of why you've joined/haven't joined the military, and your reasoning behind it. Is it moral? Do you not want to make that commitment? Do you just not want to go shoot people in a fucking desert?

When I was younger it was amoral. I didn't want to go die for an oil baron. Now I'm a little bit more open to the idea. I don't think I am going to enlist (and if I do it will be as my last resort) but the idea seems pretty fun. Maybe I've just romanticized the /k/ aesthetic too much. Still, the whole idea of comradery and the adventure of military is enticing. Maybe I'll join the French Foreign Legion.

War is hell and there's no use dying for some propped up sandnigger regime that doesn't benefit the United States in any way by existing
Reading books like All Quiet on the Western Front really strengthened my anti-war sentiments in high school. I still think those sentiments are still there, and I know the based Christian mindset is that of war should be avoided at all costs, but fuck you can't deny that military aesthetic/romanticism is cool af. I wouldn't be surprised if a good amount of the Army joined purely because it looked cool.

I joined the army because I kinda must, though at least I didn't do any faggoty deskjob.

If your country is under life threatening threat then supporting the military is important (as long as you have something to give). What people don't understand is that for every person carrying a gun there are 9 other people who's job it is to support that person in paperwork and logistics.

In most western countries joining the army has no point. Either you are glorified force to show off a budget (EU). Or you are more likely to get your side to accidentally kill you than some goat fucker (USA).

You shouldn't join the military, unless you're some young idealist from a country with a proud military. I was an Army Cadet, and it taught me a good few valuable lessons.
  • Military men are severely autistic (possibly furfags, too)
  • The Military is gay
  • MRE's taste like slop
  • They ran a PSA campaign about Cadets being molested by their superiors
  • Women shouldn't be in nearly all of the workforce, let alone The Army
I remember hearing about how a superior (forget the title, been a while) beat a twelve year old for not giving him his ADD meds. I'm not sure if the guy who did it even got kicked out of Cadets. It's a sham, and everything that people say was correct.

These are going to be the people that you will surround yourself with if you join The Military. Weird, autistic men that use discord, watch family guy
in the boys tent at the FTX, get bedtime stories banned because somebody kept fruit in their knapsack. And uppity butterfaced high-acomplished women.

No doubt that's the case, that's why the military tried to co-op said romanticism. However it's not worth fighting for gobohomo, Israel, or Saudi Arabia unless you really need a pay check. Now if there was a landwar against China or Mexico it'd be different.

At best the US offers college -- shown obviously to be marxist propaganda farms already, so pirate some books in your favorite field and get a 4 year head start on whatever it is you want to know.

As to the FFL, they're cool but getting blown up by Tuskens or whatever other sand people got invaded last week in North Africa someplace is still dumb as hell. Let Frenchies die for France.

Depends on the country, but as a Jewmurican I can say firmly say, don't. You'll wake up a decade later with a 70yo's back at the ripe old age of 30-40ish, and then you'll find that the shithole country you got sent to in order to "liberate" it is much happier without you there even if they're practically starving to death as a result of the lovely economic sanctions your wonderful elected leadership put on them out of spite. None of the benefits they offered you will matter since whatever your political stances were at the time, you're now the undesirable that needs to be crushed. Assuming you even make it through college on your shitty benies which won't allow you to drop classes most students would in a heartbeat, you'll still be entering into a totally not stratified economic class that won't hire you because you're a kulak and you don't have prior experience. All the fucked up injuries won't matter to your medical coverage. If you're lucky you might get a few shekels out of being half-deaf at a young age, but it's more likely that they'll just give some cop-out excuse for this like "you should have used ear pro."

Literally every story I've ever heard from people in the military has been bad, especially the fully retired veterans. Every veteran I've ever met has been some variant of crippled, be it busted leg, slipped disks or some sort of horrible lung disease, and those are just the ones without missing fingers & legs. Almost all of them have some variant of PTSD. The government treats soldiers like toilet paper & the president will check their watch every three seconds at your funeral procession. Not to mention it's become a troon institute that cares more about diversity training than drill training.

So no, joining the military is a bad idea.

Even just 5 years ago I'd recommend joining for some quick adventure or just a good reset on life but nowadays I actively discourage it. I don't want to talk about personal stuff on the internets but fuck the modern US military and fuck fighting never-ending conflicts. The real enemy is inside the gates anyway.

@OP Don't join the FFL. They don't want you anyway and you don't actually want them. /k/ is full of never-served retards as well. Last I checked the few vets there were pretty open about how gay the military is/was all while dumb kids give each other "advice" on enlisting by poorly parroting what they saw someone who knows their shit say 5 threads ago. /meg/ can be good but you have to get lucky and chance upon some anon who is in the know.
If you do end up enlisting then try to get into a job that nets you useful skills outside of the military.

If you're a psychopath and you want to kill people join SF if you're good at maths join the air force and fly planes other than that don't join

If you live in a Western country (and especially the United States), I would strongly discourage it. Just about every conflict the West gets involved in has absolutely nothing to do with national defense, and everything to do with benefitting powerful special interest groups. It offers little benefits to ordinary people, and what perks it does offer are massively outweighed by the personal cost (being away from family, risk of serious injury, psychological trauma, etc).

I'm not sure what's supposed to be so appealing about military life anyway. Perhaps I am of an especially free-spirited disposition, but to me, the thought of stilted conformity and blind obedience to authority provoke a feeling of strong revulsion. I don't understand the appeal at all.

Military is just another profession, like firefighter, doctor or waiter. If the salary is nice, you are physically ok and have nothing against killing a guy or two, why not?

In officer rank and above it's a good way to score a pension before turning 40. Militaries are a necessary part of a nation state and if you can put up with the insane bureaucracy, why not?

My country conscripts, but I probably would have even if it didn't. I'm out now, but it was overall a good experience for me even with combat tours, and it's one of the best possible experiences you can put on your CV.
