You know how after Mother 3, the developers said there wouldn't be any more sequels, and they wanted to leave things to the fans? I think we've long since hit that point with Shrek, and Dreamworks refuses to admit it.

Dreamworks has been pretty hit or miss, but some recent hits like The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots has me looking forward to a Shrek 5. I think it will be good, but even then with it being a modern movie; I hope it can avoid any “modern dayism”, maybe I’m just to the point that anything that releases nowadays I’m always a tiny bit cautious about because of how these people like to slip that stuff in.

Shrek hasn’t been good after 2. 3 basically forced the issue by having the king die, and 4 needed some bullshit time travel to undo the happy ending. No one’s going to care about 5. Like what more is there to even do at this point? He’s got a happy family, everyone likes and respects him, and he seems to have mostly gotten over his anger issues that drove the first two movies.
Short of retconning him back to an angry loner or making up some retard villain with a death wish (yknow since everyone that crosses Shrek fucking dies at some point) there’s no more conflict to wring out of him really. It’s done. Just let him be.

It's almost impressive how they managed to perfectly miss the near decade-long period of time when Shrek was a big cultural meme and people would have gone to see it just as a joke.
