Skipping ads in YouTube now brings you to another ad

It used to be that, if you had a 2-ad block in your video and the option to skip the first one, doing so would skip both. Now that's not the case.

This brings the minimum ad-viewing time up to 10 seconds, 5 if you somehow have a single ad you're allowed to skip, and 6 if you're given the shortest "quick" ad you can't skip.

I bet this STILL isn't going to turn Alphabet a profit.

Just one more reason to run adblockers. Sadly, with the termination of YouTube Vanced, there will never be a client like it ever again, but there's NewPipe for mobile. For desktop, why in the name of Christ aren't you running an adblocker? If you are watching on television, just use pihole.

I do use whatever vanced changed their name too but the YT app has my history and subs, so sometimes I watch an ad if I'm too lazy to switch back.

Use uBlock origin on desktop. It's open source, so in case they try to pull some Ad Block Plus shit, someone's gonna make a clean fork of it. On mobile, you could use NewPipe. It's on FDroid. You could also use invidious (https://redirect.invidious.io/) on both desktop and mobile. It has some issues though, but works for the ultra-paranoid.

Youtube has always been about keeping hold of a powerful tool, it was never about profit. There was no financial gain in disabling dislikes but they did it anyway, atleast with the broken search system you can argue they were bribed to shill certain results. The site is becoming increasingly unusable even with a lack of alternatives.

UBlock Origin has already been mentioned several times, and of course all savvy people use some kind of adblocker. An extra thing I recommend though - SponserBlock. I only picked it up a few weeks back but it's already become something I can't imagine giving up. It is a saved archive of when YouTubers do sponsorships that automatically skips over them and just in that short time it's skipped 4 hours of sponsor stuff for me. It also has an extra feature to skip to video highlights that I use less, but really trims the fat when you watch a video for one specific well known thing.

I guess JewTube is trying to double down on pushing that ad-free service that nobody wants. Why would people use ad blockers?! Could it be that nobody wants to sit through thirty seconds of commercials just to watch a ten second video?

yt-dlp also supports this feature if you're saving videos.

Firefox Mobile supports uBlock Origin as well.
NewPipe is great but it's designed for streaming music/podcasts in a playlist more so than general youtube usage so it can be clunky. It does support subscriptions without a youtube account.

The only problem with NewPipe is that it shits itself every time Android gets an update and it can take weeks for them to fix it, but other than that NewPipe is the best goddamn app I've ever had. It feels so fucking good to be able to listen to stuff with the phone in sleep mode knowing that I am not giving money to Youtube for their "Premium" play audio in sleep mode "perk".

Everyday I am reminded that Youtube has gotten worse ever since 2008, with it getting exponentially worse since the Adpocalypse. Thank God I use Ublock Origin to browse that godforsaken site.

Vanced changed their name? What is it now.

I didn't bother deleting it from my phone, I just noticed one day when it asked me to update and it restarted as PlayTube.

For Android/GoogleTV you can sideload SmartTube. Easier than fucking with pihole.

If you're not doing so, make sure you're using Newpipe's repo and not the general fdroid one. The fdroid one takes ages to update.
