I think it's free, they're offering free booze to sit through this and trying to snipe some of the SDCC foot traffic. It's like an autistic door prize for people who couldn't get into their panels they wanted. The last anniversary party they did was free, drinks included.

Apparently there's a Sonic themed car upstairs at the event, I guess SONCHU got repossessed by the auto loan company Chris didn't pay.

Not really, they've done this twice already, they did a nostalgia trip with Sonic 4 and Sonic Generations. This new game looks like a rom hack of Sonic 1-3 and Sonic CD.

Neither Sonic 4 nor Generations really got classic Sonic down pat. Fair enough, it does look like a ROM hack, but certainly a very well-made one. The art and animation are great and Taxman has always been a pretty good level designer.

But I imagine this is just a side project and they'll announce a 3D thing at the end of the night or something.

Dear god, the twitch stream is cancer. Literally Memes AND people whining about Sonic Adventure 3. Then again i'm hyped for Sonic Mania. I LOVED Christian Whitehead's work on Sonic CD.
