So there's this Sonic fan game called Sonic Gather Battle that's becoming notorious around the web for its incredibly creepy "DRM". Amongst some of its more shadier actions: it will close your browser if you try to search for hacks or cheats for it, it kills Cheatengine if you try to run it at the same time and it will pretty much brick itself if you try to stop the shit DRM. Behold:
So essentially it's malware. As you can imagine the creator of the game baleted his DA in response to the negative feedback this got him.

I think the idea of a fairly ordinary game turning into something more creepy if you try to cheat/tamper with it is really cool, but maybe that's the Petscop-loving sperg in me talking.

I mean, it would be cool, if it didn't actively screw with other programs or comb through your personal data...

how tf did the creator put malware in his fan-game so he can access a sonicfag's web data?

oh yeah, magic

You cannot claim those characters and/or images in your game yours, and you cannot deny others from using it because you restrict the use of it (so no backseating). Those belong to SEGA and they are the ones who can put their policies in place. That’s how intellectual property works. what you’re doing is consitered plagerism. You are not SEGA nor SEGA belongs to you as well as users’ pc.

Your DRM can be summed up with an acronym with the same 3 letters: Dangerous Rootkit Malware. Nobody likes cheating, hacks, etc. I get that. But one thing this kind of digital rights/restrictions management matches with the infamous 2005 sony rookit debacle.

There’s a quate by a Texas government who said “It’s your intellectual property—it’s not your computer”.

Add the word “NOT” in between the first two words and that’s the message to you.

You are basically a malware version of Alex Thomas Mauer, an abusive “rights” holder who don’t know how copyright works. A user who go after others who LEGALLY use your stuff because you wanted copyright to have no “limitations and exceptions”. Guess what, this “vigilante” behavior will screw up your reputation so hard that everyone will hate you. Don’t expect ANYONE will hire you for ANY JOB after they found out about your actions. Expect the same government investigation the same that happened against sony. And you will be listed in hall of shame of bad copyright holders out there who abused youtube, twitch and other public places where false takedown can happen.

Shame on you. I will never play games or use ANY software made by you.

And youve been reported to the authorities.

trojan game bad

>have fun doing jail time for your little trojan sonic game : ))))))

Are you that badly determined to make sure nobody cheats at your little game, that you go and steal player's IP addresses for it? Awwww, you must have a really big ego ;((((

You can just hear their sweaty hands schlicking their small peepees with every word they type. Such badassery. Much loathing. Very brave. Wow.

that's assuming there is even gonna be a mania2.
Wouldn't surprise me if Sega was trying to find a reason to make Mania 2 never happen, considering how much of a shitshow the PC port launch was.

That was completely their own fault, plus Mania still sold really well across all platforms and got the highest scores any Sonic game has gotten in ages. They would have to be retarded not to make another one.

So if course it won't happen because Sega are huge retards.
