The reason is that the ps5 isnt selling well at all and FF16 didnt sold as predicted. I assume they were expecting FF7R numbers, but that was nlt only a remake of one of their most popular titles ever, but also on the ps4, a console with a much much bigger user base
Yup, exactly my thoughts. What they didn't consider is that, during a wartime economy, maybe I don't want to spend $570 on a game and a whole new console just to play something I might not like, considering how scammed I felt after buying Final Fantasy XIII.

FF16 isn't turn based, and it looks to just have that strange half-automatic combat with more particle effects and static animations that makes combat feel like I'm just mashing buttons and hoping my character does something. It ain't no Secret of Mana, where you press a button to whack an enemy, and you get an impactful blow with a satisfying sound effect.

I think the difference is that sega's downfall was caused by stupidity, while sony's is being caused by malicious greed. Even when you can classify one of sony's decisions in the "dumb" category, it's mostly that they were dumb to think they could get away with it.

That being said, Square Enix are buddies with Epic Games, so even when it does hit PC, it'll be a while before it's on Steam.
I'm not so sure about that. FF16 clearly didn't sell as well as Square had hoped and I really doubt that even they would be stupid enough to hold the PC version hostage on the Epic Scam Store for six months before it's on Steam and lose even more money.

>Kingdom Hearts, one of the biggest money-makers for Squeenix, is still stuck on EGS
LOL. LMAO, even.

They already did that with FF7 Remake, Stranger of Paradise, and The World Ends With You. The Kingdom Hearts games have been exclusive to Epic for over two years now. Funny enough, the widely maligned Forspoken went straight to Steam. They tend to hold back games people actually want.

I used to be a Sony fellow, as well as my family, for several years when the PSP and PS2 were still largely my preferred systems at the time. However, upon the PS3's debut price and shoddy lineup of games, we've dropped it and became an XBOX and Nintendo family since.
And knowing how they drop kicked their final major audience: the weebs, down the spiral we call "globohomo", I'm glad we did not.....even if I'm basically a right-wing guy who's in a rather left-leaning household.

What do you mean PS5 is not selling well? It's already the 17th highest selling game console at 41.7 million units before it's 3rd birthday.
Why no one seems to be able to sell an exclusive on that console is anyone's guess.

Personally I don't think there's a lot of faith left in the Final Fantasy brand. People care more about the names "FF7" or "FFXIV" than they do "Final Fantasy"
Its just been mishandled so long, so many horrible decisions that the name Final Fantasy doesn't give any confidence in buying games at launch.

I'm interestedin in FF16, but its not a full price purchase to me. Its a steam summer sale in 4 years purchase.

Yup. It's a stale brand with not much identity, and those in charge don't even seem to know what to do with it. It's not even a turn-based RPG anymore, and hasn't been for some time. I guess you could argue that its always been an arbitrary brand, with how they just slapped the name on their unrelated Game Boy games to help them sell in America. That kind of marketing tie-in works, though. I would not care at all about Final Fantasy XVI if it weren't named as a part of a brand of games I enjoyed a very long time ago.

I'll probably pirate FFXVI and end up uninstalling it after an hour, just to satiate my curiosity that is entirely brought forth by the Final Fantasy name.

Its not like Final Fantasy Adventure wasn't a tie-in originally, it had chocobos and everything. Its only with Secret of Mana that they took that stuff out.

Plus apparently the faggot in the game who people assured me is ackshually a totally cool faggot even has a kissing scene. I wanted to give FF16 a chance but learning that, it's now entirely off my fucking radar.

I mean that’s why most of us here hate on Sony so much because it used to be fucking awesome. There was a time that just getting a PlayStation meant you were going to have good games to play. Now it’s just a overpriced toy for redditors and black people to play their free to play Chinese games on… oh and Spider-Man too I guess…. Until that comes out on PC haha.
