It's entirely for security reasons. Only Microsoft keeps their browser opened up since they're that confident it can't be used to mod the system.
Isn't the Xbox's browser just their own console version of Microsoft Edge?, if so, than they can also benefit with it having more market share than they would keeping it stapled to Windows and installable on other PCs.

Yes it is.

Using the web browser to jailbreak a system has been one of the most common attacks against walled garden systems for a while now. Remember Jailbreak.Me? I think there was a browser jailbreak on the PlayStation 4, too. Sucks for those of us trying to make gay locked down hardware do something interesting, but it's a no-brainer from a business perspective.

why the fuck the ps5 doesnt have a browser, let us change our background or let us play without the fucking disk.
Because Web Browser of PS4 was used to execute kernel exploits.
BTW PS5 does have a browser: "User Guide" is technically a browser that shows you information from help.playstation.com/some/thin/g. A custom DNS allows you to browse normal Internet with it.

Why even have an power adapter anymore? I'm sure if you own an iphone nowadays, you own at least one other adapter.

The better question is why not? It's more convenient sometimes, especially on a portable. Instead of shifting devices you can just use the one you're currently using anyway.

A charger is essential for a cell phone. An Internet browser on a console is unnecessary IMO.
Technically everything just short of playing games is unnecessary in a console.

Okay, let me go on Kiwi Farms on my PS5 after playing The Last of Us II to bitch about it with a controller. I remember the PS3/4 Internet browser. Clunky as all hell. I remember the browser on 360. Useful because I did not have a phone then. If you like it, more power to you. I don't get it.

The next thing Polyphony Digital is working on, instead of making Gran Turismo an actually great game, is being part of the Sony Honda Mobility collaboration on an EV, the Afeela:

The problem there is you bought TLOU2.

The Wii browser was surprisingly good until about 2009.

you mean the few weeks it functions as intended before inevitably fucking itself?
My Elite V1 died last year - rubber came off and the bumper trigger broke, I repaired both but it isn't the same.
Maybe I was lucky, but I gave that pad 1000's of hours worth of abuse over years.

I'd buy an OG, sealed, V1 Elite in a split second if I could.

Now, if only someone would make a controller with a track ball so I could play slow-time RTS games with a controller, I would be laughing.

Sony also had an issue with piracy and homebrew on the psp and vita, so much so that they tried to implement ways to combat it on the vita which didn't work in the end, I think this, combined with how much effort it takes to maintain a web browsers compatibility with web sites and security concerns probably added to Sony and Nintendo's reasoning to not include a browser. Microsoft on the other hand already has edge, so they probably thought they can just update it along side the PC version with little to no hassle.

All these posts about how the PS5 doesn't have features previous consoles did makes me wonder if we've discussed the bullshit that is not being able to transfer one's PS5 saves to USB. That's some fucking nonsense. Fuck you Sony.
