I don't think I've ever actually watched anything on Blu-ray in my life.
You're not missing anything. The Blu-ray experience was always kinda crappy.

Remember all of the fanfare around DVDs? Fun packaging? Lots of special features? Crazy stuff that never manifested like being able to use a controller to change your perspective? Yeah, that wasn't really a thing with Blu-ray. Tons of rereleases were missing features that were on their DVDs. Crappy transcodes seemed to be more common, and crappy upscales became a thing. Almost nobody embraced how Blu-rays could hold a whole lot of DVD-quality content on one disc, so you never saw things like entire seasons of a 480p show on one disc. Then there was internet connectivity bullcrap that I never even looked into.

I remember how Sony was banking on lightning striking twice with the PS3, expecting the public to run out and buy one because it was the cheapest and best Blu-ray player for a while. That was retarded.

Nobody cared about Blu Ray, just nerds.
Damn straight. I remember nerds at the time pretending like DVD quality was just completely unwatchable, despite talking about how it was so crisp just a few years before.

Now 4k Ultra HD discs are a thing, and I'm sure there's a contingent of nerds out there pretending like Blu-ray is completely unwatchable, and they need to consoooooooooooooooooom those 4k discs.

When I still had a VHS player several years ago, when I still watched movies at least a bit compared to once in a blue moon now, I used it as much as DVD, maybe more. Goodwill had movies for a quarter each, and I could borrow from an old guy I knew, plus had my own. I think it still looks fine, and actually kinda prefer it in some ways, which I admit is just nostalgia.

The idea film has to be on Bluray or whayever is newest is crazy to me. I think it's cool those options exist but by no means is VHS DVD unwatchable,

This really bugs me for older TV shows. On a DVD you get a near perfect interpretation of what would have been aired from digibeta tape because its all 480i. OK yeah its 4;2:0 instead of 4:2;2 and it is MPEG2 compressed but the quality is outstanding, no scaling, no fuss. But there are genuinely people who think thats unwatchable and want all old shows rereleased on blu ray.

I got into Blu Ray very late, until 7 or 8 years ago I would just pirate everything but after getting DVDs for my kids shows it turns out that yeah they'e nice for a physical version of a movie. But if I end up getting a DVD instead I honestly forget the difference after watching for 5 mins.

PS3 had plenty. PS4 was where this shit started
PS3 had some games like Resistance, Killzone, MotorStorm, God of War III, LittleBigPlanet, Ace Combat Infinity, MAG, Kung Fu Rider, etc. and those were fun.

PS4 had none and PS5 also has none.

EDIT:

I wish Sony still made good phones. I had an xperia back in the day, and it was built like a tank. Hell if they made a sequel to that psp phone with cloud gaming I bet they could have given valve, if not chintendo a run for their money, but instead we got a weird controller-tablet that is arguably a worse decision than the ps3 boomerang controller

I went looking for a Sony phone last go around only to find out they had quit.
Lead me to Motorola, I've been pretty happy with that.

What's the word on State of Play? It's tomorrow right
State of play is the 31st at 2pm. Dont expect anything crazy but we are rumored to get a Rebirth Demo, More info on Death stranding 2 and possibly a release date for Stellar blade and Silent hill 2 remake. Hopefully both of those are coming first half of 2024. My hope is DS2 actually shows us some gameplay and what the new hook is for this sequel and I kinda get the feeling this might be the big 2024 holiday game for Sony.

40 minutes though so there could be some nice surprises

motos are pretty cool, they kind of continued the Sony trend of taking risks that didn't need to be taken but were worth it. Case in point, this thing (came for free with this phone):

I don't know what changed at Sony, but it seems after the physical media era ended (according to the powers that be), they resigned themselves to just be a company that pumps out thin screens and boxes like Samsung. Around the same time that modern market research arose. Just firms my belief that "moneyballing" everything ruins it.

They have quit?
My Xperia would disagree with that.
The only thing is I wish it was more 16:9 instead of 21:9
Rumor is the Xperia 1 VI is hitting MWC in late February.
Will be interesting to see if they still keep the MicroSD and 3.5mm.

Neat, I'm not paying $1000+ for a fucking cellphone.

I would like to see more information on Rise of the Ronin. I'm hoping it isn't souls-like. More Way of the Samurai meets Ass Creed meets Tsushima. (Yes. Yes. I know about Red)
More so wishing for it to not be so brain breaking difficult. And I say this as someone who loves Sekiro.

A word on 4k Ultra HD Blue Rays...
You can't even watch them on PC due to HDCP 2 being an absolute nigger. Not only do you have to have a BD player that can read them, but the only way to play their content is through an Intel Chipset with SGX support, which Intel fucking DROPPED for the latest CPUs.

Currently there is no legal way to watch a 4K Blu Ray on PC, lmao. The only way to watch one is to buy a 4K Blu Ray player or a PS5.

I've got a Moto X4, are there any current Motorola phones compatible with the mods that I could jailbreak? I picked this up for cheap to replace an X3 and found out after I bought it that Verizon locked the motherfucker down and I can't root it, which is an issue because I use the phone for tethering, and I'm not paying Verizon extra cash to unlock it legitimately.

I didn't know there were any Blu-ray drives for PC that could even read 4k discs. I know there are those BD-XL burners, but I didn't know if they're compatible with 4K BDs.

Well then. Huh. So that sounds like 4K BD's gonna wind up among the ranks of those oddball video formats, like CEDs. All because they went so overboard with making sure nobody could play them. What a stupid situation. Oh well, I figure there'll be plenty of enterprising individuals out in China willing to build capture cards that spoof HDCP2, and saintly lads willing to capture 4K rips at high bitrates through their players.

There are a few, as in, around 5 or so that currently work from what I researched, they all have been discontinued, and one of them had a firmware update that DISABLED it (lul).

Of course I only really found out about this after I picked up a shiny new internal BD player for my new PC build because my old internal player wasn't even supported for Windows 10 (pulled it out of a Win 7 PC).

I'm generally happy to pay for content. But if I have to jump through 37 hoops or just click 3 buttons to acquire it in an un-paid manner, I'm probably going to choose the easier option.

Plenty of 4k contont on the 7 seas that I WOULD have paid for if I could play it. Guess I'm not paying the studio for a 4k rip of Top Gun after all, oh well.

Edit: If the corpos insist that I own nothing and be happy, then they won't mind if I just take it anyways, seeing as how I won't own it, technically.
