When PS5s were hard for anyone to find and stores were leveraging it to bundle them with crap no one wanted, it sure would've helped Sony if the VR headset were out already. All those consoomers willing to drop a grand to get a PS5 at all would've been potential VR gamers.
I wonder if this strategy will come into play in Japan if they're still being scalped en masse. I never heard if Japanese retailers did the bundling worthless crap thing.

Jak & Daxter was an identity-less series in many aspects. The first was just a best of N64 being a mash of Banjo & Zelda with the selling point being the seamless open world. Then the sequels pivoted to GTA. It was a very well developed product of its time, but was very much a product of its time. Ratchet also lacked an identity really being a FPS platformer hybrid with edge humor for teens.
I mean dunno the humor honestly made me laugh in some instances and it never came across as edgy to me also wasn't ratchet in general a prick in the trilogy.

Ratchet was an asshole in the first game, then Insomniac started making him kinder with every entry as they didn’t like how much of a prick he was. They even changed the voice actor between the original and Going Commando to signify the change. The original was a development hell title that succeeded against the odds, so they very much resented it in quite a few aspects and seem dumbfounded on how the fanbase liked Ratchet or got anti-consumerist messages out of it.

The series also went into more edgy territory with Deadlocked being obvious from just looking at the cover. It was never as bad as Jak in terms of ‘cool guy protag’ but very much had the same sex jokes and almost cursing all throughout. Funny as hell to be fair with some memorable shit like Qwark fucked a monkey, but still was very much a product of 2000s culture. The PS3 would pretty much ditch most of this and go for a more Pixar plot.

If you want a console, get a Switch or a PS4 (I swapped the 500Gb HDD of my PS4 with a 2Tb one), or a beefy enough PC to run every emulator known to man, seeing as RPCS3 basically runs every game that came out on PS3.

Except for Drebin's haircut, it's kinda glitchy.

Telling someone buying a new console to go last gen is retard-tier. At this point you can buy a Switch if you want it, but have to deal with the fact that a new one is coming next year and as for the PS4, well, its not going to get big first party games going forward and therefore is dead.

The fact that most once PS5 exclusives suddenly got a PS4 version makes me see that Sony is likely very much aware that the PS5 launch was a disaster and almost no one has it. You can say a few factors were out of their control, sure, but most of them werent so this really is a shitshow of their own making. There is no reason to own a PS5, at all. And I say that as someone that owns the PS1-4 and have them all in top functioning shape because they defined my childhood. Hell, I dare say that the line peaked with 2 and hasnt been able to come close since.

If you want a console, get a Switch or if you really dont want to bother getting a gaming PC, get a Xbox because at least there you are getting more bang for your buck.

Im not gonna lie, I put the freaking WiiU over the PS5 at this point, at least even that had more features and more games to offer.
Honestly as someone who wants to swtich to pc gaming is the steam deck a good starting point since it supports desktop mode and if all hope is lost i guess the series x is the only option.

I don’t have a Steam Deck since I already have a more powerful gaming PC, but I’ve pretty much only heard good things about it. It also has some nice tools for setting up all your emulators for you.

I tried a bit the Steam Deck from a family relative around last Christmas, nowhere enough to get the full experience but still:
-it's really fucking massive, like a morbidly obese GameGear. My Switch OLED in comparison was much smaller in width/size.
-screen resolution is 16:10 which is unusual for vidya compared to 16:9
-you can limit the screen framerate in order to save battery life
-PC game compatibility is not fully guaranteed so your mileage may vary but you should be prepared to eventually fix shit yourself (just like on a desktop PC anyway).
Couldn't try out emulators because his microSD card corrupted itself sadly. He bought the 256GB model and I know the 512GB top model is the sole one with a mat screen.

Meanwhile, PC and Xbox chads look upon their giant game libraries and smile, knowing they have hundreds of games across decades to choose from. The Xbox chad picks out his childhood copy of Morrowind, places the disc in his Xbox Series X and enjoys it running better than ever, while the PC chad installs it with all of his favorite mods. They get together outside and sip tea while discussing their exciting adventures in Vvardenfell, while the gaumless PlayStation guy cries in his cuckshed, doing all he can to convince himself that the toy headset he bought to play Rick & Morty: Virtual Rickality wasn’t a total waste of time and money.

For real though, any time I see console warriors in places like YouTube comments, it’s always a PlayStation guy throwing stones. There are always retards who will defend whatever they have, but the PlayStation guys are easily the most militant. Everything about PlayStation just reeks of insecurity now.

I remember during the 360 era, Sonyggers chimped out real hard when Devil May Cry 4 was announced to be multi-platform. There was some kind of petition or thread where they all wrote about how they felt "betrayed" and "left out", as if Capcom owed them something. It was one of the most immature things I had seen during those Console Wars that I still remember how pathetic it was even now.

Even Nintendo fans weren't that retarded about Resident Evil 4 not being exclusive to Gamecube.

Sorry, Sony ponies. There will never, ever be another PlayStation 2. :smug:

I am ok with 1080p 60 fps also is modding and piracy easy on it
Well whether you get that depends on what the game you are playing was targeted at. Is it 7 years old and targetted at a base Xbox One? Yeah, you'll get that. is it targeted at PS5? It will struggle. Piracy is.... well... it runs emulators okay if you set it up to do so. Once again though, I think modern stuff is harder.

Uhhhh..... its called the Switch.

I played more or less the whole MGS series last year, with 2, 3, and 4 on RPCS3. 2&3 run great although you have to figure something out for the pressure-sensitive buttons (what the fuck were they thinking), but 4 kept crashing on me every so often. Use savestates if you're going to play 4.

This guy does live streams where he fixes game consoles on a board level. A common trend of his repair videos over the last few months has been its almost all ps5's and almost all of them have liquid metal escaping the CPU enclosure.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=LbX_UjhgpGU the cooling of the ps5 is designed for liquid metal because the fan is not pushing air fast enough under any other option. In this video from 2 years ago this guy who also does board repair tried thermal paste instead of liquid metal. The ps5 overheated before even firing up a game properly and auto shutdown.
as someone who has seen other videos of him, all it shows is that people treat their hardware like absolute shit.
I simply don't trust an "issue" which wasn't one until some no-name frog youtuber did a video on it and generated big clicks. that's like the retarded bs someone made up years ago about the PS4 pro "overheating" and turns out retard put a solder iron on it for some imgur drama (which pretty much confirms it was a redditor).

another thing no one mentioned is that it will fuck with servicing them, so instead of everyone suddenly going off with MUH LIQUID METAL, that's a much bigger issue.

Speaking of mocap, I'm seeing a lot of indie films starting to use UE for animation. I guess it makes animation a lot easier vs rigging and doing it all manually.
probably cheaper than whatever overpriced "industry standard" software wants for less or more complicated features.

I can appreciate the hesitancy but I firmly believe there's more to this than just a "trend started by a frog". The consoles he's opening up with liquid metal touching other contacts on the board don't look like " treated like shit". Besides you'd basically have to treat it to the point of taking a baseball bat to a ps5 to cause that deep of damage to break the enclosure x clamp holding the heat sink to the CPU.

You can withold judgment until we get to red ring of death numbers but I don't believe Sony's production line can accurately quality control well enough to ensure liquid metal cooling is foolproof for a mass production line now in the 20+ million and counting. If you are curious find your local electronics repair place and start asking them questions. How many ps5's have come in? What's the common problem with them? Go to your local game store and ask them how often they are processing returns on ps5's. I'm seeing it weekly.

Good guy sony for once...I bought some old ps1 classics on ps3 but after my ps3 died (7ish years of service) i couldn't access them.

They brought back my literal favorite JRPG Legend of Dragoon and all I had to do was 'add to library'. Lets hope some of my others come through like Sly and Megaman Legends 1/2. Kind of upsetting I got 'Jak and Daxter trilogy' as a one buy but its not the same as the three individual games.
