Yeah, you really didn't miss shit. The PS4 started out very promising, but right off the bat, the cracks were starting to show.

• No backwards compatibility whatsoever
• Games no longer came with manuals
• Mandatory full disc installs across the board
• Enormous updates
• Required updates with no indication on the packaging
• Controllers with batteries you needed to charge after every single session
• Inexplicably worse Blu-ray software than PS3

And the damn thing couldn't play music CDs, just to piss off the dozen or so people who cared. Xbox One could play them, lol.

Sony really turned things around during the latter half of the PS3's life, but the PS4 was just a slow, continuous decline, and now the PS5 is such a colossal wet fart. There's just nothing exciting about PlayStation anymore.

You left out the part about how most PS4 games took up at least 40-50GB on disc at minimum, combined with the fact that the first version of the console came with a measly 500GB HDD, which meant that 5 or 6 PS4 games could easily fill up the HDD.

That 500GB was pretty anemic when even simple saved games that should be kilobytes clocked in at no less than 10mb. I did a quick search and found a NeoGAF thread where someone was complaining about save game sizes, and how his FF15 save was a grand total of 629.2mb.

I remember complaining about that when I got my PS4 ages ago, and I remember the common response being "lol you can just swap out drives! just buy a 2TB one!". Great, so it's gonna run me a hundred bucks to fix the problems left by Sony because they don't care about reducing file sizes anymore. If I were gonna buy a 2TB drive, why not just install it in my PC? Kinda puts a massive dent in the whole point of collecting discs when you can't just pick a game off your shelf, toss it in, and play within minutes.

Still annoyed about KOTOR Remake being PS5 exclusive, since it's one of my favorite RPGs. Then again it's being developed by Aspyr, who are mostly a port company, it probably won't be that great anyway, which sucks even more. I think they moved it to another Saber Interactive studio which might be good, but Aspyr being the original lead devs at any point makes me very uninterested.

Gran Turismo 7 turned 1 year old earlier this month, and yet the game is still missing features in past GT games, i.e. an actual single-player campaign, newer cars for the most part, and cars from other racing series, i.e. NASCAR, F1, IndyCar, and V8 Supercars. PD and Sony are also still trying to push the game as an E-Sport, with the return of the GT World Tour events.

The scariest part about this is that two of those four 100k+ PS5 sellers are bundled titles (Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Forbidden West) which inflate the numbers. There's nothing on the horizon until Final Fantasy 16 that can reliably break 100k physical. The whole thing is a farce.

And it looks like PS4 SKUs for multi-platform releases are starting to plummet as demonstrated lately

It was, with main development going from Aspyr to somebody else within Saber. The blueprint is there, even down to little details that you only pick up on on 2nd, 3rd, 4th playthroughs. Just make it prettier, a bit more intuitive, and add cut content like Deadeye Duncan on Manaan and we'd be set!
