I keep hearing that yet I have 25+ year old PS1 games that work just fine.
Disc rot seems to differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. I know there was a thing with specifically just Warner Bros. HD-DVDs rotting away. Sony discs seem to be of very high quality, though it's anyone's guess if PS5 discs will last as long as PS1's.

I prefer DRM-free digital. Physical is still full of DRM and degrades too easily. If I buy a game from something like GOG I can make backups that'll last as long as the storage medium I put them on.
Man, I wish BD-R XLs were cheaper. I'd be all gung ho on GOG backups if they were. TPTB really screwed discs over throughout the Blu-ray era.

Just get some external hard drives; for backups those work pretty well.

I genuinely didn't know Vanquish or Metal Gear Rising were made by Platinum until after I played them. And I don't think I've actually played any of Platinum's other games.

Vanquish and MGRR both deserve fucking sequels already.
Platinum was always weird with how it was talked about. It was either people convinced they would save video games in the PS360 era of everything being boring brown games because of its founders or people that loved a singular title of theirs and swore everything else they made was crap and stopping them from making the games they wanted. They're definitely towards the top of studios in the last decade plus a few years but that's also because the majority of formerly good studios have just shat out garbage in that time. It still baffles me they weren't purchased outright after the merger by Sega or Sony but I'm certainly glad they weren't.

I think Astral Chain was the last game of theirs I even was interested in and I didn't even end up playing it. It was even like $5 for the PS4 version during COVID shit and I still didn't.

Neither of those were Platinum though, they were from Bandai/Namco/Namco/Bandai/whatever the fuck it's called now
Yeah but they look similar to Astral Chain at a glance, so he probably confused it for one of them, and they are both on PS4. Also Switch games never go down to 5 bucks ever, especially not Astral Chain which was printed for a limited time and was no longer in print during Covid.

Holy shit i'm very lucky to have gotten it. I still need to play that since it's been in my back log for like four years.

FWIW RE PC talk:

You can get a banging second-hand PC for the price of a new console. I just got back into PC gaming after a 20 year absence because the console scene is dire.
The best part is, my 'mid-ranged' gaming PC is called mid-range because it can't do 4k@60w/RT
It can play games at 1080p and 1440p at ultra settings and 120fps. To me, that's not mid-range, it's perfect. I've slapped some mods on Fallout 3, 4 and NV and am able to play through 100's upon 100's of hours of enjoyable, pleasant gaming for less than the price of one months' subscription to XBL or PSN.

Not to mention buying old games for dirt cheap on steam or just pirating them. There are so many RTS games i've missed out on and the whole C&C collection is worth buying to play through those games again.

4k is a lie and a money sink. Reject RT, return to 1080p

I live in Japan.

I don't buy digital. Not books, not music, not media, not games.

I don't want to lug a fucking PC on an airplane, because I need clothes. It's way easier to stick a Switch, PS4/5 and a laptop in a carry-on bag. I've been doing it for years. (I don't actually know how much smaller the PS5 is than the PS4 if you take those stupid faceplates off but it can't be that much bigger)

Even if I wanted to get into PC gaming, it would be near impossible to find an English OS here.

People also have large collections of games they already own. The PS and Xbox storefronts have crazy sales all the time and rebuying all that shit is a pain in the ass.

Do you live in Japan or do you live on a plane?
While I appreciate the convenience of a switch, even if it's for nonces, my post wasn't about that. It was comparing the current console situation; cost, lack of games, remakes etc, vs the price of a good, high end 1080p/1440p ultra gaming machine.

I've been an xbox console fag since it launched, the x1 was shit so I switched to PS4, then back to x1x for cheap games via gamepass. Now both Microsoft and Sony are going down the same retarded-as-fuck routes which is alienating consoles owners.

Kikerosoft chasing the shekels i can understand, but not excuse. Sony on the other hand? Fuck them sandal-wearing goldfish tenders for chasing the digital dollar, fuck them in their stupid arses.

So apparently PlayStation just got hacked and the hackers got the credit card information from everyone's PSN accounts

Wait, the linked video was from September 25

that's why you get a steam deck if you need the mobility or form factor. and you can get the official english iso off microsoft's site (which you wouldn't even need depending on the game)...
