the point is that it isn't escapsism for YOU, the white cis-hetero patriarchal monster that all hardcore gamers clearly are

GamerGate broke these bitches' brains, because it was the first time people en-masse told them NO. So, Anita Slaneeshian got to work, slowly but surely subverting the game industry, mutating it into....well....shit like Spider-Nigger 2.

It could be an opportunity for fresh blood, maybe we wouldn't see half measures like the Stadia but full-on consoles by either Google or Apple as the most likely possibilities. Though, most in a position to throw their hat into the ring might be just as woke as Sony, if not worse.

And soon these bitches will be out of a job once DEI and ESG go into the dumpster. These companies are going to start cutting the fat soon and these cunts will be the first to go. Once that happens I have a feeling that many companies will be weary of hiring female writers in the future.

Those aren't exactly big companies' efforts, and they were trying to fit into a crowded market. If even just one, either Sony or Microsoft, exists the market then that leaves potential competitors with a more viable window of opportunity.

What I'm saying is, comparing the Ouya trying to squeeze between the big 3 to a scenario where the playing field is whittled down to one or two where a major player could enter isn't equal.

Let’s say Valve makes Steam OS even more stable/idiot-proof and makes a new generation of Steam Machine, theoretically setting a standardized benchmark for PC games to target like what the Steam Deck did. Would that qualify as a new big player in the console space, even if it’s technically a Linux box?

I can't see something like a Steam Deck competing with consoles. PC games are a different breed from console games. I can see it as an introductory stage TO PC gaming because of its accessibility but competing as a console ITSELF would be economic suicide.

Valve is already operating on a razor thin margin for the Steam Deck, I don't think they particularly care about hardware profits, since it just leads to more people using Steam, which they make a 30% cut from every sale on. They effectively have infinite capital and no shareholders to please, so if they actual do try to compete they are probably the only company that could do it.

Consoles are typically sold at a loss, with most of the profit coming from software royalties and first-party title sales, so if Sony were to decide getting the royalties from software sales wasn't enough to offset the cost of console production, I could see it happening, but the niggercattle will buy Sony's garbage just like they do Apple's iToddler slopware, so I doubt it would happen any time soon.

To be fair, she's mostly dressed like that in Web of Shadows because she's been on the run/in hiding during a giant symbiote apocalypse in NYC. And at least she and Black Cat were hot as heck in that game.
Speaking of which, compare this 2023 game's Black Cat to WoS Black Cat from 2008. Now, tell me, which one looks better?

All the software is open source since its Arch Linux, the Steam Deck compositor is also open source, and Proton is open source. Not the actual hardware, its a custom SOC made alongside AMD called Aerith. There is nothing stopping you from directly modifying the motherboard itself, someone replaced the RAM modules with new ones and gave it 32gb of ram (which since its a shared RAM/VRAM system also doubled the available VRAM). The rest of the system is pretty modular as long as its not the actual motherboard, the SSD can be replaced super easily, all the controls are on their own boards so those can be replaced, the screen can be replaced, the battery as well. However, a handheld system like the Deck could never really have easily upgradable parts by virtue of it being a portable handheld, it has a specific formfactor that requires an SOC, and making that modular would end up taking too much space or result in less power efficiency, in general is just unrealistic.

The Deck being limited is actually a good thing because its driving a lot of developers to actually optimize their games because of how much of a hit the Deck is. Also because its running Linux and all the Valve software is open source, people have created plugins to manage the power settings and change clock speeds and even how much VRAM is allocated, and that vastly improves performance, albeit at the cost of battery life. A console will never be easily upgradable because that's the tradeoff, cheap, but being cheap means being locked to a single hardware configuration. If you want to upgrade in the future then that is what a PC is for.

This sounds like a stretch, but it sounds like the Steam Deck is the best of a mobile ecosystem and a console experience rolled into a PC build. When you make games for mobile, you'd have to optimize them for several phone SKUs and OSs. See Apple with Apple Arcade. With a console, you have the convenience of plug and play at the expense of a controlled ecosystem/UI through the console manufacturer or provider.

PC does not have those limitations (unless you count these storefronts trying to get a cut of Steam's revenue or developer/publisher DRM) provided you're in it for the long haul. I just don't see Steam Deck overtaking console sales itself unless MS/Sony really drop the ball next generation onward. That's up to the developers to create experiences optimized for PC/console gaming. What killer app does Steam have compared to Nintendo?

Almost every game past present and future, including Microsoft and Sony first party titles? Obviously the Steam Deck won't outsell the existing consoles, but the fact that its doing better than anyone expected is suprising a lot of devs, and you are seeing even the most stubborn of developers start to support Linux and update their games for Steam Deck support. Capcom just updated Monster Hunter World last Thursday 2 years after dropping support to add Steam Deck support. Clearly its enough of a thing for developers to bother to go back and update their games just for it. It's not a threat to Sony or Microsoft yet, but in the future it might become one, but only if Valve continues to support it, which I hope they do, since they have a history of dropping things when they get bored.
