I'm unsure if Marty is still working at Highwire or not. Turns out the composer for Six Days in Falluhjah is some chinese guy that says Marty handed it off to him before he retired. I don't think he ever announced his retirement or anything, and bungie sicced the destiny simps onto him and made him erase his youtube channel and go radio silent for years, and now people still hate him because of bungie's campaign against him.

They might have kept them actually, since it was all the senior devs that got fired because they cost more than just hiring a bunch of juniors for dirt cheap. Apparently Microsoft turned down buying them (again) because of their insane money burn through with development because of incompetent higherups, and a bunch of the now fired employees are finally coming out and saying how terrible it was to work there because of how much of an ego the higherups have. Their expected earnings were down 45% than what they predicted, probably because they were on an ego trip after Witch Queen and thought they could just keep screwing over all the players with more and more predatory monetization, and they were wrong so now they fire all the experienced staff. It's only going to keep getting worse for them, they will milk as much as they can until the studio is dead.

Oh man if Marathon doesn’t hit some kind of gold, that I do not believe exists for Live Service games anymore than they are definitely fucking done. There’s no possible way the current staff can muster up a expansion for Destiny to save it from the free fall it’s in now. I don’t even know how much worse the monetization for this game can get, but I can’t wait to see it and watch as their fan base revolts even more. I’m still shocked that a large number of Destiny players could actually throw their hands up and stop supporting Bungie.

Have I told anyone how happy I am that Sony bought this fucking trash fire right as it was starting to burn. I’m sure all those great Sony Live Service games they bought Bungie to help with are going to just make them so much money lol.

Something else people should remember is that a lot of corpos slated their expected earnings based on 2020 - 2022. Problem there is nobody accounts for the pandemic.

A lot of people in quarantine had more time to play video games. That and millions of people were given those stimulus checks which they inevitably spent on frivolous things.

Now it's 2023 and these corpos still haven't figured out why their consumers aren't buying their games as frequently or at all. Everything is inflated now. Everything is expensive. Gee, I guess that's what happens when you print trillions of dollars and shove it all into the market.

Small PL, but I've seen shit like that in my line of work as well, company in a sector that happens to benefit quite a fucking but from a pandemic, updates all of their expectations tot he moon and then this year, hit a brick wall and are all like "whahappun?!". I don't know if they are honestly that retarded or if they are just doing a monkey dance.

Because it's been turned into a such a politically-charged topic. It's funny to think how you see articles about new strains of COVID popping up, but nobody even seems to care--not even the folks who pushed mask-wearing with religious zealotry. 2 years of hell and then, all of a sudden, everyone relaxes and thinks they can get back to business as usual. That's the funny thing about this "New Normal" too. These businesses aren't treating the world like any "New Normal" actually exists despite trying to force that idea on everyone. Instead, they're trying to go back to how they've always done things as if all the damage that's been wrought over the past few years hasn't changed anything and they're just going to continue to sell video-games like they always do.

The economy is inflated? Well, let's just set up a system where we continually monetize new content. That way, our consumers have to pay even more money to play our games!

These corporate fools are absolutely clueless. Unironically, they need to touch grass. This subject-matter also runs in tandem with what @PaladinBoo was saying earlier: that the Spider-Man 2 devs pushed BLM logos into their product despite folks like Blackrock denouncing them. In other words, they pushed outdated woke virtue signaling. Not only are they clueless about the real world, they aren't even up to date on where the current woke narrative is.

What is really funny is how they are also pushing really hard for #MeToo in their games. Thanks to the Depp v. Heard trail many people have now soured on #MeToo. Especially women. It has gotten to the point that even the guys at RedLetterMedia, who normally try to remain apolitical, are complaining about the misandry in entertainment. Even South Park jump on the bandwagon in making fun of feminist writers with the Panderverse special. The grift that Anita started is about to come to an end. Everyone sees it for what it is now and are sick of it. Not to mention that it is losing companies money.
 
I'm going to be honest and say I didn't know "Live Service" games, that is exploitative highly addicting games designed to drive players to repeat monetization, were on the way out. Been busy with being an old man I guess. Also as an 🧓 fuck Destiny. I'm much happier putting my money into "boxed products" slop like Crymachina or Silent Hope and taking the risk that I just don't like them that much.

What's taking the place as the main financial driver? Are we back to the industry being hit-driven?

Anyone who knows Spanish is fully aware that it is a gendered language (i.e., certain words are said differently depending on the gender of the person being spoken about). But the devs for Spider-Man 2 completely rewrote the language for the sake of their faggot-ass inclusivity.

I'm late but i think 8bitdo has adapters that work on both ps1 and ps2, however you will need to use a modern controller (think ds4, xbone controller and dualsense work with it) or one of their own controllers (i have the pro2 and it is pretty good save for the start and select buttons location)

The adapters go for around 20-30 dollars and they also sell kits to convert your old controllers into wireless ones

Theres also blueretro ive heard which from what i know is pretty good but lacks stuff like pressure buttons and the fact that for some reason you have to go through extra hoops to get ps3 controllers working and the lag is bad too for them compared to other controllers ( the ps4 controller having only 6ms of input lag while ps3 is 30 something ).

I have a couple blueretro adapters, honestly wish I'd never bought them. The compatibility is poor compared to 8bitdo and brook adapters and the config for it is such a mess while also being necessary because the default controller maps are nonsensical.

Brook adapters are expensive but worth it.

Seems like 8bitdo is the sweet spot between the cheap bluretro and the expensive brook adapter but hows 8bitdo since its twenty bucks on aliexpress and hows the input lag

Not negating that both of you bring pretty valid points, though thinking about it more, I can perfectly see all of this as a consequence of "LINE GOES UP!" financial philosophy. I'm a capitalist at heart, but eternal growth is one of the most retarded economic concepts out there and at least the scenario I mentioned I can totally see nobody wanting to admit that line went up a lot 3 years ago and then dropped like a brick this year, so even though the writing is in the wall that you just happen to grab very well a wave of success that had no relation whatsoever yo whatever you actually did and things are just going back to before the aberrant period (plus fuck you inflation coming in, kicking the door open and belt in hand). Nobody wants to admit that the growth was "fake" because they all got their asspats and bonuses from it, so they all seem to act bemused by this.

This could also link up to both your examples "people were willing to pay more 3 years ago, full steam ahead on all plans to nickel and dime them!" or "Our woke garbage sold better than prior years, we clearly must virtue signal to the max! (and farm ESG sheckels cause those will NEVER DRY OUT!)".
