I remember Matthewmatosis had something to say about this seven years ago. Might still be true today.


Long and short of it is, a lot of Western execs still don't understand or don't care about Japanese studios and a lot of excellent games get overlooked for games produced by American studios.

I mean that is true, but for best soundtrack all they had to do was listen to the music. Compare this:
to this:

I'm probably biased but still, there is a big difference in quality, obviously different genres, but God of War has that generic Hollywood sound to it.

That's not the point I was making. You seem to be assuming they actually care about the quality of the music when the entire system is bent on money and propaganda. In short, the Japanese studios often get neglected because they're not super big AAA titles. The entire voting block doesn't care about art, they care about corporate gains. They look at anything that isn't sanitized by their own office culture as unsafe or worse and that bleeds into what these companies will choose to market and elevate.

A personal example; I once worked at a retail store that sold a variety of third party products including ones associated with our own brand. Now, corporate constantly tracks what are known as KPI scores which incentivized us to sell the products associated with our brand and less so the third party products. I used many of the products we sold and in my experience many of the third party products were superior to our brand. Nevertheless, whenever I made my sales pitches, I always tried to get the customers to overlook the third party brands because I stood to gain a higher KPI score for selling our brand.

Every corporate industry works this way. Quality doesn't matter, what matters is pushing your brand and increasing corporate gains.

Holy shit, it's astonishing seeing this video and realizing how hard Sony has dropped the ball.
In 2016: Yakuza, Persona, Nioh, Nier and Ni no Kuni were all Playstation exclusive games, not because of any excusive deal, but because Japanese devs didn't know otherwise. Now, all of them are on PC, Xbox and some are on the Switch. Sony lost some excellent "free" exclusives out of contempt for Japaneses games, it was simple as that.
Persona, Yakuza and Nier in particular have blown up in popularity since, and would have been great system sellers if they continued being exclusives. In fact, I only bought a PS4 so I could play Persona 5. If the sequel is ever announced I'd have no reason to buy a PS5, because I know it's going to be multiplatform. Actually, "Metaphor: ReFantazio", the next game by the director, IS multiplatform and I'll be playing it on PC.

It might not necessarily be out of contempt although at many times I've seen that attitude projected. It's partially why I stopped playing World of Warcraft. Wyatt Cheng yelling, "Do you guys not have phones?!" really did it in for me. They might as well have said, "Stop complaining and just buy our products, you pigs."

All this just tells you how high the ivory towers truly are and how out of touch these execs are--not only with their consumers but even with game developers themselves.

I mean, if forcing japanese devs to respond to all playstation emails in english only and mandating that japanese games that release only in japan conform to the western style playstation control scheme instead of the original one that the controller was built for and they still use over there isn't contempt, I don't know what is.

I think this is worse than contempt; most of it is apathy and corporate dehumanization. Everything is streamlined or simplified.

Contempt is actually going out of your way to hurt your consumer; like Wyatt Cheng (in the earlier example) didn't need to say anything. Which is why I'm surprised he wasn't canned. So I don't think this stuff is done because Western execs hate Japan--I think they do it because they don't see the immediate benefit of treating their Japanese friends like human beings.

This is a reminder that Steve Danuser is still the Narrative Director of WoW. These retards aren't getting fired, especially since they've mentioned they have more freedom from Activision now since Microsoft bought them. I don't expect the retards at Microsoft to clean house at Blizzard after they let 343 molest Halo for a decade.

I agree but neither of those have particularly outstanding music. The first GoW song there sounds like a bootleg Skyrim opening, and similarly, that first Xenoblade song sounds like a bootleg version of a Ys song. It reminds me of this one in particular (which sounds a lot better too):


What I think is funny is also that both those second songs you posted sound just like something I'd expect to hear in a movie.
 
Sony has another Spider movie movie coming out. Looks like an all female cast. Which means it'll definitely be more lame, woke garbage
