Shit man I think the Switch might actually dethrone the PS2 by this time next year since the system usually sells ~15m units a year.
 
The Switch 2 allegedly is slightly more powerful than the PS4. If true Sony is cooked.

Nintendo already has the weeb and Indie markets locked down, if you can play the more graphically demanding games on their hardware too, game over.

Their current total as of March 31st, 2024 is 141.32 million units. The projections that Nintendo put out in their latest report was 13.5 million this year, which makes sense considering there isn't massive system sellers like TOTK and the news of the Switch 2 coming out next year is going to hurt the current console's sales. The console has also seen a downward trending amount of console sales each year, as this year was 15.7 million units and last year was 17.97million units. Its up in the air if they'll dethrone the PS2's 155 million units sold but it will likely be very close. Regardless of what happens this fiscal year, they'll likely keep the Switch 1 in circulation for another 1-2 years and it will definitely dethrone the PS2 even with massively diminished console sales post-Switch 2 launch.

Do I have unrealistic standards, or is ”more powerful than a PS4” the lowest possible bar you the general “you”, not you specifically could set? I’d be concerned if it ended up less powerful than a Steam Deck, which to my understanding is about equal to a PS4 Pro.

Considering almost every dev has been hesitant to jump to next-gen exclusivity, a "stronger PS4" is pretty fair.

Yeah, the PS4 is 10 years old (god I feel old), I'd hope it would be at least that powerful.

Yes, you do, because advances in battery technology have not kept up with previous rates of progress and Nintendo isn't going to sacrifice battery life for power. We're also hitting the limits of miniaturization and "easy"/cheap chip advances. Add in the fact that Nintendo doesn't actually want to push visual limits if it comes at the expense of game dev timelines and budgets and, well, I would be shocked if it was all that much more powerful than the PS4. Now, upscaling and other shit might stretch visual abilities a bit beyond the "2010 PCs" we've been chained to for the past two generations but I don't think it will be by all that much.

I hate to say it, since I only bought a switch for a Metroid Prime 4 which never came... but, I'd buy a switch 2 for the same hope.

I'll be nice and say this about Sony, at least their first-party PC ports are one-time $60 purchases with no MTX, and they don't use Denuvo.
 
PS portal should have been a handheld.
If the Sony handheld isn't £300 or cheaper on launch it's DOA
Switch 2 being as powerful as a PS4 is fine, considering most current gen Sony games also run on base PS4.
Switch 2 needs to be cheap, not £400+
Switch 1 dropping to £99 would clear the channel and push it way beyond PS2 sales. Hell, I would pick one up for the laugh and it would by first Nintendo console.

I just no-lifed all the way through Gravity Rush 1 and 2 over the weekend and I really enjoyed it, and now I hate Sony even more for killing Japan Studio. I feel like they purposely didn't do any promotion for any of the Japan Studio games so that they would flop overseas and that would give them an excuse to kill them off. Why do they hate Japan so much? I don't understand it, it has to be ideological or something.

Japanese people and culture are allergic to the woke faggotry infesting the rest of the civilized world. Everything in Japan is built for beautiful people, rich people, successful people, and most importantly those who can get along with the crowd. Societally you are talking about the polar opposite of what woke promotes -- the ugly, the uncivilized, the losers, and the degenerates.

While it would be nice if that was the case, it sadly isn't. Wokeness is coming for Japan hard; its already infiltrated the Japanese game industry, and its also coming after Japanese anime and manga, and worming its way into the Japanese LGBT community. Japan is only somewhat insulated due to its conservative society and lack of English proficiency, but as Japanese companies become increasingly desperate to sell their product overseas to make for Japan's own shrinking consumer base, the woke that have infiltrated the overseas industries will gain more influence and power.
