Nintendo might be assholes but they are competent assholes. They have money that they save incase of a future failure. Sony, Microsoft and the AAA 3rd party studios put every penny they have on every game.
Deffo not true of Sony and Microsoft, lol. Maybe the XBOX division, and ocassionally it'll come close to the entirety of Sony Computer Entertainment of (Europe/America/Japan etc) but their parent companies have HUGE warchests.

Obviously Microsoft is a behemoth, but you'd be shocked how many industries Sony are in, in Japan. Nintendo might have some love hotels and other ventures, but Sony even have their own bank.

Nintendo has a little south of $15bn in the bank. Microsoft has about 76bn. It's not as easy to see what Sony has on hand and they've had a few years where they've lost almost half their cash on hand and gained it back, but it's probably around $50bn.

Of course, Microsoft and Sony are way more expansive than Nintendo, and their gaming arms are seperate, but they're not really at risk of going under any time soon (Xbox maybe, but MS could save it if they wanted). This is just cash on hand too, it doesn't account for them being able to access financing, selling assets etc.

Take this with a grain of salt. Cant confirm if this is real or not but this PS4 OG vs PS5 Remake of Until Dawn using Jessica as a comparison that I found.

Look, I meant their gaming divisions. The companies themselves might have huge warchests BUT that does not mean dick if the parent company decides that game consoles and games are not worth investing in. Will the companies themselves close? No, but their gaming division might. The parent companies might decide to bail them out but it will not come cheap. Expect downsizing and layoffs. Both companies are DEI infested up the tits, there is little actual creativity and talent in there. What little talent remains is either concetrated on one studio or it is living in fear. Their parent companies could decide to fire everyone in games and stick to their other products and they would be no worse for it. Their studios had massive brain drain and talent bleed over the years. There is little left. They might be given ONE chance to turn things around but I cannot think of a way to do it while mantaining full woke as it is expected of them. Sorry but parent companies want money and woke. If the gaming arms fail in either, they are toast.

In that situation, Nintendo's warchest is just as useless anyway though. Sony and Microsoft also have a leg up in the PC market should consoles totally collapse, whereas Nintendo would have to start from scratch with all their tooling.

Nintendo have gaming with little else. They will fight tooth and nail to keep their only moneymaker. Personally, I think that gives them an edge. The other companies can decide to close their gaming division should it become too hard and too costly to fix. Nintendo, on the other hand, will try their damnest to bring the customers back in the same situation. Cornered animal and all.

What's the realistic situation here though? When consoles die, it's likely for generic hardware like PCs and PC handhelds, right? I can't see 15bn really touching the sides if the market disappears to convince consumers to go back to walled gardens and less choice.

It doesn't seem realistic to me that both console and PC get wiped out with how developed the market is, which is the situation Nintendo might have a head start on should it happen.

Nintendo's best interest then would probably be becoming a licensing company. They're already expanding it with the theme parks, movies etc

Firstly, what do you mean by "consoles dying"? As in the entire demand from the customers? The faith in consoles? We do not know how that will look. In my opinion, losing faith in Microsoft and Sony does not mean losing faith in Nintendo too. They still make games.

We will see what gets wiped out and what does not. Again, Sony/Microsoft shedding gaming does not mean consoles are over. It just means that these two failed. We will have a clearer vision with time. We will see.

That might sound like a purely good idea but it does not necessarily mean anything good. Without a console to push there is a not insignificant chance their creative spark might die too. Gaming as a whole would be poorer for it.

As in the market evaporating for closed console systems

They're some of the biggest companies in the world, and console gaming is declining while PC gaming rises. Your point was that Nintendo have so much money and legacy assets that they'll weather the storm, right? Who other than Sony or Microsoft could afford that? Maybe NVidia, but they're less interested in gaming by the day and likely don't want to hurt their relationships

Having a console doesn't garuntee they'll stay fresh either though? I mean what happens when Miyamoto et al finally retire? Sure there's a lot of talent at Nintendo, but they mostly ride the coat tails of a handful of peoples IPs. OK, Nintendo might not do well with no console and licensing. Nothing says they'd do well with the opposite either though.

I'm still amazed to see people engaging in the console wars. This is something I haven't felt passionate about since 2014 as a kid
I gave up after Sega died. Moved over to Sony until the PS3 where it was doing weird shit.

Would have given Microsoft a shot, but that RRoD was a massive fucking deathnail for me, especially given how often it was happening to people.

Then the industry will have a bunch of hybrid/handhelds that have comparable strength to a PC (if a bit on the low end) and the PC. Most stuff that would go on PC will see ports on the consoles too, as always. Remember, when the crash happened in the '80s, EVERY gaming company that had a console in there went down with it (or at least was severely hurt) and Nintendo swooped in getting everyone 's money. People were willing to give the Nintendo consoles a chance, even then. Sure, PC gaming was not as BIG then but it was the only kindo of gaming remaining. Still, demand evaporating just like that is unrealistic. If there is a console with exclusives, 3rd parties, good enough power to port PC games and a good price, things will be fine for Nintendo. But, again, we will see.

Not exactly. My point is that they have the money to weather the storm long enough to produce products that make profit again for them. If they stand still and wait for the storm to go away, they would be screwed so they will not do that. They will try their best to learn their lessons from their failures, earn the customers ' trust back and promise that the next time, things will be better just like they did with the failure of the Wii U and the success of the Switch.

As for Microsoft and Sony, it is not that they cannot afford to save their gaming divisions, it is that there is no point in doing so. They have the money but why? What games will they launch that will turn things around? Concord 2? Horizon 3? Redfall 2? What? They have either lost the talent that made them their gems or the DEI does not allow creativity to flourish. Throwing huge bags of cash at their teams and telling them to make games is what brought them on this situation in the first place. How is doing more of it going to help? Have I ever told you the definition of insanity? It is a waste of funds to try to save them if they do not course correct and their woke mindset along with their lack of talent does not allow them to course correct. Sony and Microsoft MIGHT bail out their gaming divisions but it only delays the inevitable unless they change. Which they won't do.

Nothing is a cure all. There is nothing certain. I just think that the "Just go 3rd party" talk is reckless. And yes, they do ride the coat tails but they make new IPs too. Look at Splatoon. And Arms (this one did not do as well as the former but there is a creative spark in the new generation even if it does not always produce massive hits, moderate hits are fine too when considering their budget).

That's even worse for us tbh.
Yeah, it's actually the smart decision on their part if they don't remove the woke rot (either because they're unwilling or unable). By not advertising the woke shit, it won't drum up a huge shitshow of people slamming the game over all the details. AC Shadows has A LOT of problems beyond Afro Samurai but people wouldn't have hyper focused on all those details if Ubisoft didn't drum up attention with "GUYS, LOOK AT OUR BASED BIG BLACK SAMURAI, TRAP MUSIC PLAYS WHEN HE FIGHTS AND JAPANESE PEOPLE ARE BOWING TO HIM".

Assassin's Creed 3 had you play as Haytham Kenway for like the first 3 of 12 sequences of the campaign and they NEVER included him in any promotion material. The AC Valhalla devs made female Eivor the canon choice but the marketing still presented male Eivor as the main character. They could have easily just not mentioned Yasuke and had that as a surprise for players. I fully expect the internal talks are going to be presented as "We lost at least +$200 million USD in sales because we included Yasuke in the marketing" instead of "We lost at least +$200 million USD in sales because the game had Yasuke."
A report has come out saying PC gaming in Japan has tripled in popularity and the soyny fags are coping saying it's fake and that PC is dying even harder than ever; no-one wants a PC they're too expensive and has no games, PS5 has games and is worth the money.

Sony cope is the funniest and most deluded cope.

PC gaming jumped to 13% of the market while console has stagnated to 21%. Considering how much dominance Nintendo has over Sony in the JP market nowadays, it would be fair to say that PC gaming has eclipsed the PS5 in Japan. The Japanese have officially adopted PC gaming as an alternative to high-end consoles. This is devastating to Sony, this use to be a "free market" for them in the high-end console market because Xbox had no presence. Nintendo was already blasting them in the JP market and now they're losing relevancy to the PC market.

Another shimmer of hope is that mobile has lost 10% of the market share.

I'm mentioning yet again how salty I am about being unable to transfer PS5 saves to a USB. I hope Sony suffers greatly financially for that alone. Lucky for me it seems they're doing just about everything they can to fuck themselves except intentionally devaluing their stock.

the game save shit sony is doing is shitty is shitty no doubt.

The My Abandonware version is good, but requires a lot of virtual tard-wrangling. The ones I posted are just download & play versions of the games.

Dude, you are a hero. I have been playing Wolverine all night. Looks and plays fantastic. Could you possibly point me towards a copy of Wolfenstein 2009? If not, you have already done a hell of a lot.

Its far beyond just that. Ubisoft (and Sony, with GoY,) want to open Japan up as an additional market for the game, like GoT did. But their anti-bias training prevents them from admitting that Japanese gamers want to play as a bad-ass gritty Japanese man. They can't go half way and give them a gritty black guy or gritty girl. It has to be a guy. But coomers want a Japanese female and DEI-pushers want a black person. Don't be suprised if there either is a tranny in the game or one is unearthed in the code as cut content. Ubisoft has had people internally pushing for that for at least a decade now.

It has more to do with PC gaming defeating the classic stigma in japan of "that thing I use for work and also for nasty porn games". Digital distribution has contributed to this but I would say it's more of a generational shift and higher internet literacy than previous japanese cohorts. Also it's not like anyone in japan is busy with actual social life and romance.

ChemicalFl00d, aka Chem, whose versions (they're basically plug n' play, removing the extra work (aka virtual tard-wrangling) after download to make them playable) I posted before hasn't gotten to Wolfenstein yet, however it's confirmed to be on his list so it will eventually happen, might take a few months on it. I actually recommend his Discord (yes I know it's Groomscord, but bear with it), over his Reddit cause it's great for finding Abandonware games quicker. I'd like to include one thing, Chem's not a pirate as much as an archivist, if a game gets a remaster he might delete it after 24 hrs. he did it with the first Croc game, I have got it tho.

That said, there's a version on Internet Archive that seems to be working (eventhough VirusTotal showed it as sketchy), Here are some more links.
They're essentially the most trusted links in order:
My Abandonware. This is possibly the most assured one. Just follow the steps there to play it.

Old Games Download. Pretty famous site, never really failed.

Another Internet Archive Link

Gametrex. I personally never used this, so I have no idea of it.

Now for something entirely else, check the Redump CD collection, they preserve disc games in the most accurate way possible & don't fuck around with the files on the CD.

You can find all the PC Games in this link. To see if a game has been preserved check out their site.

I see the following games in the collection: Wolfenstein (Europe) (En,Fr).7z
Wolfenstein (Korea).7z
Wolfenstein (Poland).7z
Wolfenstein (USA) (En,Fr).7z
However, you might need to go through that said virtual tard-wrangling that I mentioned before, so go to PC Gaming Wiki to fix everything like FOV, Res, head bob glitches (actually important to fix), etc.

Damn dude thanks again. I know Wolf 2009 wasn't well received critically but I felt like it was a cool blend of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and FEAR. You have gone above and beyond.
