I disagree, many of the most successful games in the past few years, and really, since the inception of gaming, did not boast cutting edge graphics.

I won't deny that good graphics can help market your game effectively, but I suspect that's usually being done by developer that know their game has nothing else to offer.

What people ultimately care about is a fun game, all the better if it has good art direction or good graphics, but no amount of polygons or raytracing will make a shit game not suck.

PS4 emulation isn't emulation strictly speaking. It's virtualization with a reimplementation of the PS4's APIs. So you don't actually need a strong PC to emulate PS4, you just need one with a CPU comparable to the jaguar in the PS4 (aka any CPU made after 2015).

I'm pretty sure ShadPS4 is way more GPU dependent, and requires a ton of VRAM instead. You do need a strong PC, but it can be absolutely bottlenecked and will be fine. Stick with your i7-4770 bros.

Theoretically (and i'm pretty sure a few 2D sidescrollers and stuff will be fine), but don't expect to play Bloodborne on the go anytime soon.

The Wii also had Madworld and No More Heroes. Both comically over the top violent games clearly made for adults.

Outside of shitty unoptimized AAA games and 4K, you don't really need a computer with anything crazy to run worthwhile games, including emulators. My i5 8400 2070 Super are still chugging along just fine outside of Cyberpunk 2077 and Planet Zoo. Zoo Tycoon 2 is better, anyway.

That's not just a stereotype from the Wii/DS era, that's a stereotype from the NES and SNES era as well. One of the major reasons why Sega outsold Nintendo for a time in the US was because they actually let violent, mature titles on their console whereas Nintendo was doing things like... removing the red cross from hospitals in Earthbound or turning the blood in Mortal Kombat into sweat.

Hell I'd argue that the Wii/3DS era was the era where they definitively shook their reputation as being the busybody family friendly console.
