but during the OG Xbox days they pumped out some incredible gaming experiences.
yeah they sure did

I also seem to recall a lot of games running INFINITELY better on the Xbox compared to the PS2 versions.
yeah that's what happens when you slam a pentium 3 and nvidia geforce into a console box instead of making a computer that was impossible to understand because the creators of said computer thought it'd be funny to make the documentation incredibly obtuse
Xbox looked (outside of post processing, PS2 beat that) and ran better than anything else in 6th gen

I would hope so. The 5th gen was the previous generation.
whoopsies
Had no idea there was a version for the original Xbox. Love that even Microsoft called it that back then. Guess they knew a granny would think the 360 was the same thing.
To be fair, saying “for Xbox and Xbox 360” doesn’t make as much sense

I find it funny how it was on the same disc. Throw the disc in one console, it’s one version. Throw it in another, and it’s a different version.

Isn't his next game that sci fi game with the incredibly ugly bald space lesbian?
Just goes to show how utterly rudderless Sony is that they'd even consider throwing another ungodly amount of money at NG to make the same exact game that failed to make a profit last time.

Definition of insanity and all that.

I am not sure what they're hoping to achieve with the galactic lesbian game.

People keep forgetting that TLOU2 was a massive flop that didn't even sell half of what the first game did despite all the paid journo shills giving it 10/10's and sucking off Neil Cuckmann. People only bought the second game due to the goodwill that Naughty Dog had built up from the first game as well having a built-in audience from said game, not to mention the bait and switch Sony pulled with the game's deceptive marketing by hiding Joel's death scene.
Not only did TLOU2 flop but they also failed to deliver factions and promised it as the multiplayer game in the future, which was a lie, they never had ANY intention of making a factions experience like the first game had, it flopped around between being a battle royale, a looter shooter and an extraction shooter but it was never a regular PVP game like factions. and despite the hundreds of millions spent on making it, it never even released. I hope we get some big leaks on how much the live service fuckups cost them.
and people forget how much they spent remaking the first game only for it to sell basically nothing. It wasnt a cheap remaster, it was a full big budget remake and it sold NOTHING
When Heretic Prophet bombs it's over, he's gone. I'm sure journos will suck it off but it wont sell

The Xbox was just a $300 Halo machine, no one would've bought it if it didn't have that.
Halo was the big draw but I remember one thing keeping people there being the WRPGs which were only ported to the Xbox, like Morrowind, KOTOR, Jade Empire, etc. Even into the 360, the PS3 got a number of delays on ports, like Oblivion being ported 1 year later.

Druckmann has a massive inferiority-superiority complex. He knows he is not the best (at least subconsciously judging from the fact that he screwed over everyone who was better than him) but he believes he deserves the treatment the best gets. Everyone who could have made "Factions" work had left and he was forced to either try and fail or release a single player only game and hope that is good enough on its own. In the end, his shortcomings made it so that he could do neither. The fact he spend money and time Sony did not have (that could have been spent on profitable stuff like a Days Gone sequel) trying to delay the inevitable by re-releasing the two games is just the cherry on the cake.

Xbox was also the one-stop shop for SEGA goodness, since their close working relationship with Microsoft in the previous gen on the DreamCast incentivized them to port over many in-development or finished DreamCast games on the Xbox console instead:

Gun Valkyrie
Crazy Taxi 3
Jet Set Radio Future
Sega GT 2002
Otogi 1 & 2
Shenmue II
Panzer Dragoon Orta
House of the Dead III

The console might as well have been called the "DreamCast 2" with the number of unrealized DC projects that carried over to it. I just wish it received more ports from that system--I would've killed for an Xbox port of Spawn: In The Demon's Hand or Dynamite Cop or any of the Sakura Taisen games.

I can vouch for this. I played a lot of Halo, but mine came with JSRF and Sega GT 2002 in a bundle, and I got a LOT of mileage out of both games (I still sorely miss JSRF lack of remastering).

I also played Otogi 1 and Otogi 2 front-to-back. They were amazing games for their time. OG XBox may not have had the mainstays that are now multi-platform, but it did a bloody good job with what it had. It should also be pointed out that the Splinter Cells very clearly ran better on it.

When J Allard and co had their drunken night out in memory of the cancelled Dreamcast, they pitched one another the idea that "we could make a Dreamcast 2". And thus, the xbox was born.

I'm not doing it justice, but the story of the conception and creation of the OG Xbox is great. It's a shame the MS suits got their hands on the department after Peter Moore left, and the whole thing fell apart.

The Xbox was already in development way before the Dreamcast died.

That they did. The OG Xbox is still the best way to play the ONLY good version of Double Agent.

It was also the best place to play X-Men Legends I & II, aided by the fact that they both ran in 720p.

Which is fucking insane for games made back in 2004.
