Hasn't been a thing in ages honestly, since the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii Era. It took ages for many people to realize the companies behind those consoles were doing irreparable damage to the industry AND asking, sometimes demanding your money in return.

It was a very serious thing when Sony was winning, then everyone suddenly “outgrew” them as soon as it became clear how bad the PS5 was. Funny how that works, isn’t it?

The Switch is so close to becoming the single best selling console of all time that Sony had to “find” an extra 5 million PS2 sales. You tell me.

In fairness, Nintendo bowed out back in the Wii era and started doing their own thing. Unless, of course, you mean to say that PS5 is somehow so much worse than the Series lineup that Sony somehow lost the whole war to Microsoft now.

In that sense Sony won the war for a high powered living room box while Nintendo won the war for handheld games, party games, platformers, motion games, etc, etc, etc.

Xbox: It died with a whimper, least sold console this generation, complete capitulation, all Microsoft owned IPs will be playable everywhere.

Sony: Losing money hand over fist, no direction, live service games failing. PS5 is a normalfag e-sports machines, PC ports keep them afloat.

Nintendo: The North Korean walled garden of gaming, Stockholm-Syndrome suffering fan base they distrust and hate, Lawfare galore

PC: Unoptimized, buggy releases, uncompressed files. DRM that breaks performance Fake frames. fake resolution, AI shoved down your throat.

Gamers: "If only you knew how bad things really are."

The console wars ended when gaming became another corporate run mainstream industry focused on investor stock growth.

The war is now against the costumer.

Meta Quest 3: Pretty cool games. No woke shit. Barely any microtransactions. Experimental stuff, Indie and AAA coexist. Focus on FUN! and not movie shit. Games cost $5-$20 on average.

If you want to escape from that hellhole that is called 'Modern Gaming' then ^this^ and emulators are the way to go imo

This was speculated on months ago, but Sony are following Microsoft (again) in ditching sales as a metric of success and are instead focusing on MAU instead.
This means Sony will be going heavy on the multi-platform front, as anyone signing in to PSN, at any point, from any platform, means +1 MAU.

Expect Sony to announce more games launching on other consoles and with the Switch 2 dropping next month, this announcement shouldn't surprise anyone who has been paying attention.

Many more laughs and retarded decisions coming from Sony in the coming months.

All of these can be fixed by just not playing shit and turning off the optional DLSS. The existence of bad games doesn’t negate the existence of good games.
 
sure go ahead, make 15 more live service games, this time one of them will be a success
or more likely we can buy Sony Interactive Entertainment for $1 and fire all your fuckwits in a few more years

You are preaching to the choir, but I'm not going to bury my head in the sand and pretend these issues aren't becoming endemic in the PC space were game developers are shipping titles with the use of frame generation and AI upscaling in mind just to hit the target performance metrics. This is not about "good" or "bad" games, this is about a trend that is becoming the default for all games.

For example, Doom: The Dark Ages requires a Raytracing capable GPUs because there is no option to turn it off, and knowing how demanding is RT, they are funneling people into using upscaling just to hit playable framerates. I hope they release a future update that makes RT optional (or someone figures out how to mod it off) but the fact the game shipped without that option is a symptom of how they are pushing this stuff onto players whether we like it or not.
