Sony hate thread

The most heart breaking thing about the closure of Japan Studios is that many of the Japanese traits of attention to detail and passion for gaming that made the Playstation brand highly appealing have been mostly eroded away. Japan Studios made simple yet entertaining games that were completely unpretentious. Sometimes, I just want to play a silly, fun game without having to think too much such as Loco Roco or Parappa the Rapper. I think it's a bitter sweet feeling to see that the original Japan Studio IP's like Everybody's Golf and Patapon are being ported to other platforms by third party developers such as Bandai Namco.

Gameplay is the most crucial aspect of a video game. Yes, graphics and story are important to the quality of a video game but if the gameplay is not engaging or fun, then it's an even bigger turnoff. There's too much focus on making deep, edgy "cinematic" movie games that are pretentious and boring on the Playstation 5. It's very off-putting to casual gamers.

Sony once struck a perfect balance by making Playstation stand out from its competitors by blending both 1st and 3rd party Japanese and western developers in each generation's library until the PS5. Nintendo primarily had first party support and while highly successful in the west, catered primarily towards the Japanese market. Microsoft's Xbox has always been marketed towards western audiences and still relies heavily on third-party developers from the UK and US. Despite its strong western support, Playstation still had a unique Japanese identity and Sony stressed that during its western launch in 1995. The PS1 and PS2 did remarkably well in the global markets, especially in Japan. The PS3 and PS4 less so, but even then the third and fourth generations faired far better than the PS5.

The overfocus on the western market and closure of Japan Studios have definitely impacted the output of the western development studios like Naughty Dog and Insomniac. As many users mentioned on this thread, we hardly see anything else from western Playstation developers other than The Last of Us series and Astro Bot. There hasn't been a Jak and Daxter game in over a decade, Ratchet and Clank is pretty much dead now, and Uncharted has been neglected.

While I'm mostly a Nintendo fan, I don't want to see the Playstation brand fail. There is no Playstation without Japan Studios and I strongly dislike how overly westernised the brand has become. The California based PlayStation CEOs have lost sight of that, losing all the talented devs from Japan Studio have moved to other video game companies such as Nintendo and Capcom after being made redundant. I have lots of great memories playing great games on the Playstation platform as a kid and it makes me sad to see there's so little left of that magic that the numerous Playstation development teams used to have on the PS5.

Bingo. The whole movie game trend is utterly ridiculous and has turned console gaming from being about gaming to an arms race on who has the highest specs, the best hardware. Forget actually caring what that hardware can do to enhance a game; it's all about making numbers go up! Dumb.

I do.

Me too, i'd rather the IP's i love die, keeping their legacy intact. Rather than get ripped out of their grave, pissed on and ruined forever like God of War.
Ideally they'd be sold off to competent, non-woke companies.

I'd rather see Sony recognize its mistakes and make good games and improve.
The CEO could give me a million bucks and let me fuck his wife, I'm done with PlayStation.

sony has to be sweating bullets about how much hardware they can move with gta 6.
And with Xbox shitting themselves they can't rely on them anymore. It'll be interesting to see what Rockstar's gonna do because this game is taking so long and has costed them so much money I can't imagine them just taking the sales hit that the Xbox version will take.

At best, there are 100 million xbox and ps5's in the wild.
Let's say they sell GTA6 for $99.
Let's say they sell to every console owner on the planet.
That's $1 billion. It cost $2 billion to make.
GG R*

In reality, there are around 85 million consoles, the game will sell for $79 and will sell maybe 30 million opening weekend meaning ~$350 million in sales.
Take Sony and Microsoft's 30% cut and...yikes, it's a bomba!

If the PC version is released alongside, or within 3 month of GTA6 launch, then it has underperformed according to estimates.

Can’t wait to watch how over-monetized this game is. They will have the subscription. But I bet R* will even have offline MTX that you can buy outfits and cars for your character. Even better, you can buy property through MTX.

The same people who mocked “I just bought land in the metaverse” ads will soyface at the thought of doing it in GTA6.
