On a positive note, we are in a gaming crash. It isn't a 'slam into a wall' style crash, most like a 'spruce caboose' derailing. "Some say the market was too big to stay on the rails...they were right".
 
You know I shit on Sony Ponies a lot for good reason but at least they don't pay $100 every year for something that runs at 20 fps and looks worse than a GameCube game like Pokémon/Nintendo fans do.

I'll give them that.

I don’t hate Sony all that much, but there is one thing I do hate about them, and that’s their terrible backwards compatibility. Sure, they have the hits, but you’re telling me I can’t just put in any PS1/PS2 disc? You’re telling me your 600-700 dollar powerhouse can’t emulate the PS3? I know it’s difficult to do so, but you motherfuckers literally MADE the fucking thing, so don’t give me this “too difficult to do” bullshit. If it’s possible to do it unofficially, than it should be possible to do it officially.

Fortunately, there are so many other alternatives available I don't need to go film my own $300 million blockbuster movie to replace the shitty one I didn't pay for.

I do, proton locks you out of anticheat multiplayer games like FC and Fortnite, which is what the majority of the console audience plays almost exclusively.

Sounds like an automatic quality filter to me. Keeps the garbage off my hardware when their so-incompetent-we-can't-do-anti-cheat-without-root-on-your-box junk won't work because my hardware laughs and keeps it walled off in a sandbox.

I wonder what the split is between single and multiplayer in terms of sales of games and hardware.
Multiplayer will be more profitable because normies buy 1 game, 1 sub and 1 console to play CODnite.

Would a single-player-focused console box generate enough revenue to make it worth doing?
