Let's not be hasty. Not only would the ps5 userbase be significantly larger than the switch 2 userbase, no matter how fast the switch 2 sells and how much momentum it carries into 2026, the playstation userbase is FAR more aligned with a title like gta than the nintendo userbase is.
Sony and Sony fans are counting on GTA6 to push the PS5 into the 100 million sales mark, which is about 25-30 million units away. If Switch 2 came out and ate their lunch, that would Nintendo DP-ing Sony; S1 sells most consoles ever, S2 cucks PS5 hitting the 100 million mark.
Personally, as hilarious as I find the idea of a switch 2 day and date launch, I think it's far more probable that there's absolute chaos behind the scenes trying to unfuck all the jeet code they outsourced.
I think it's that, combined with an internal disagreement. I think management want to 'dewoke' it but their rank and file coders are danger hair trannies.

Ps4 I find unlikely. Switch 2 though? Look, those specs are to be expected, considering it has to run on series s. Anything that runs on series s can also run on switch 2, assuming a competent port.

I agree that a PS4 version is completely out of the question, too outdated and with a spinning hard drive, it is not feasible to get anything remotely of the scope of GTA 6 running on that hardware. Remember the disaster that was the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077,

Imagine if the S2 version outsold the PS5 version

As for a Switch 2 version of GTA 6, IMHO it is too optimistic to expect a competent version of that game on a handheld device without some serious optimization of the code and assets to even run properly. Calling back Cyberpunk 2077 as an example of a technically ambitious title, it only works on Switch 2 because of specific graphical optimizations that targeted the hardware and the use of very aggressive DLSS upscaling:

Cyberpunk 2077 occupies a full 64GB game card including the Phantom Liberty expansion, the PC version is 105GB with the expansion so it is obvious that a lot had to be trimmed down to fit the game in that size of game card, The reason I'm not to optimistic about a release of GTA 6 on Switch 2 is that everything indicates that it is going to be a very big game. It is estimated to be 2 - 2.5 x times larger than GTA V and that game at base is 70GB so probably GTA 6 could be 140 - 175 GB at base, even if there were the same level of optimization seen in CP2077 to cut that storage requirement by 40% that is still 84GB at bare minimum. So either the game is going to ship partially on a game card or it is going to be a key card and the costumer will have to download the whole thing on a system that only has 256GB of storage. It seems too much to ask and I haven't even touched upon how it could perform on Switch 2.

I have my doubts it is going to be a technical marvel on a PS5, let alone on a Switch 2 without severe compromises. Another reason why I believe a Switch 2 version may not be in Rockstar's plans is that there is no Switch 2 version of GTA 5 Enhanced edition. The game is right there, Rockstar could have released a version of that game on Switch 2 and probably it could perform well and get good sales to fill in-between the dry spells of Nintendo's own first party releases but there has been no announcement or indication that there is a port in the works. I could be proven wrong but a day and date port of GTA 6 to Switch 2 seem unlikely.

Interesting breakdown, I, and I'm sure the rest of the thread, appreciate the information.

Maybe the optimisation is to get it to run on Series S then? Or maybe the game is just totally fucked and they can't get it to run at all. I wonder how it will run on PS5PRO (do you remember that console that nobody talks about?)

I believe the sole reason GTAV wasn't released on Switch up to this point is that they didn't want to support GTA Online on it, because it would be impossible to have content and feature parity with the other current console versions.

I think once GTA6 is close to release, Rockstar will discuss end-of-life plans for GTAV's online, and then do a Switch and/or Switch 2 port of V with no multiplayer like they did for Red Dead Redemption 1. Probably just as hideously overpriced as that port too.

Rumours are that a horizon mmo will be announced next week...only on PC and mobile...

If true that would explain Sony being so salty over "Light of Motiram". Rumor goes that Tencent had approached Sony about the idea of a Horizon MMO but Sony said no and the Chinese being such petty, pigheaded bunch simply said "Fine, we'll make "Horizon at home" MMO instead.

There's something incredibly funny about Sony desperately needing GTA6 to release so they can move their shitty consoles only for Rockstar deciding to delay the game in order to unfuck whatever the pajeet coders fucked up. This leads to Nintendo having all of 2025 and 2026 for the Switch 2 to sell like crack.
Did Sony actually say that or is that just speculation? That doesn't even make sense.

It gets worse.

Cerny has said the PS6 will focus on ray tracing and AI, and not so much on raw power.

$1500 console with no games, using faux-k and fake frames coming to a store near you.

Which one? Because they're working on TWO
One by NCSoft and another inhouse at Guerilla
That's right, they think Horizon is not only a big enough franchise to have an MMO, it's big enough to have TWO!
It's the biggest most popular franchise of all time, in the mind of Herman Hulst.

It doesn't state, but I would guess NCSoft if it's mobile and PC?

The Horizon universe would make a good Monster Hunter clone co-op/party game, throw in some base building and there's enough there to make an interesting game. Sony are incompetent though so it will never happen.

I'm sorry that smells like bullshit. Even sony aren't retarded enough to ignore that the age of the MMO cashgrab is long gone. If you'd told me it was an horizon live service maybe.
We have about 1100 pages of us laughing at Sony making stupid decisions, this wouldn’t exactly be out of character for them.

Horizon is Hulst’s baby, and as long as he has any sort of sway he’s pushing it. There’s probably some delusional hope calling it an MMO means they’d avoid the baggage that Live Service game now carries, and it’s delusional because it misses the fact that this series is so insanely astro-turfed that no one’s buying it regardless of how they try and spin it.

It's not a real game, it's some AI generated facebook tier jeet scam game. This nostra games company does have a "catalog" but it's all the same AI generated crap.
I am reaching Current Year levels of brain infection that i didn't even think for a second that this might not be a real game. It's exactly in line with what my and other retarded EU countries would most likely fund via grants, would've been a super easy grift for the devs. Fits perfectly with those "XYZ Simulator" games that are still hype around here and basically print money, too.
So instead of making good games, the strategy now is to shit yourself, claim your game is successful(why? fuck you, that's why) and plug your ears when people laugh at how bad or mediocre the game is. Then, I guess you go out of business since this strategy didn't work with Ubisoft and it won't work with other studios either.
Works for troons, i guess. More or less. Definitely less.

To be fair, that is kind of what pc gpus are doing as well now. Nvidia's marketing bullshit was all about fake frames with the 5000 gpus.

I don't think it is a bad idea for PS6 to have a focus on those two things, but, if it is coming out in 2027, that is way too soon. Cross gen would be even worse than ps4/5, especially if more devs targeted the Switch 2.

Best thing they could do, is wait for it to have a bigger power leap for a none crazy price, and when both customers and devs feel the need of a new gen.
