This really only happened because people weren't able to transition to PS5 due to Covid shortages. Once the next generation becomes a viable purchase past-gen development tapers off because next-gen graphics get people excited excited to buy games again. Time will only tell whether console price will be enough to delay PS6 adoption, people have proven that they will go into debt to buy this shit.
I'm just gonna be honest, that's not correct. First, "muh covid shortages" is a really dumb argument, for the first couple years, they were shipping well
above the rate of the ps4, with it falling behind only happening later into its life. There are exactly two reasons why ps4 versions happened for so long. One, development was getting more costly. Two, ps5 owners
don't fucking buy games, or at least at a sustainable rate even if development costs were stagnant instead of rising.
There's a reason why when you look at the top selling ps5 games on wikipedia, over half of them list the source as "alinea analytics", a spinoff of a crypto blog that pivoted to "video game industry analytics" because they were actually a spinoff made for blogging about nft games (and we know how that whole sub-industry went) that outright admits that they
do not actually have any sources. Because sony is VERY hush about ps5 software sales, and on the rare occasion we do get them, they're either misleading fluff with no hard numbers (think sony saying that ghost of yotei's launch, black friday, and holiday sales combined slightly outpaced tsushima's launch alone, but using weasel words to not be blatant that that's what they were saying) or utterly
dire like astrobot only selling 1.5 million despite having the remaining budget from the concord marketing account pumped into its own marketing. The highest one we have an official source for is spiderman 2 at 12 million, and that's AFTER absolutely massive bundling efforts. You cannot blame "covid shortages" for the ps5 still not moving software in 2026. Sony pivoted hard to live service, and it shows, the ps5 is used primarily for 3 things. Niggers buying one as a status symbol and using it as a $500 roku stick except when a "new" nba2k comes out (or swap niggers for euros and nba for fifa), kiddies playing fortnite, and pedos grooming fortnite kiddies on roblox.
This is not something that's going to get better with ps6, in fact, it will get significantly worse. Development costs continue to rise, even as there's already been a glut of layoffs the past couple years. A $500 console is not an impulse buy, at the very least, it's something that needs to be carefully budgeted around, if not saved up for for a couple weeks, a month, or even a couple months. A $1500 console is something that
demands saving up for it ahead of time for the average family, if it's even possible to be budgeted for by them at all. And again, sony is outright stating that they are not looking to expand their current userbase, or even keep it stable, they are looking to more heavily monetize a smaller number of users. The transitory period when it was sort of just expected for ps4 games to have a ps3 version too was a little under 2 years. For ps5 it was around 3 1/2 years, and yes, while it still does happen, it's much more of an outlier. For ps6? If it still launches in 2027, I doubt it's going to be uncommon to see ps5 versions of releases in 2032.
