Competency crisis. All the old school game devs either retired or changed career fields because of how gay and trannified the game industry started becoming.
Sony's main issue is that they developed an audience around
- 3D platformers
- JRPGs
- Experimental/Puzzle Games
- Hack n Slash
- (later in Sony's catalog) the occasional open world
their main issue is that they not only tried to be like Xbox after the success of the 360, they also isolated & alienated the majority of their audience. they slowly started to not produce games from the genres they were once well known for which was evidenty with the PS4. eventually, they just went for exclusively open world slop, chasing your Ubisoft & Microsoft as everyone glazed these companies so fucking hard in the 2010s. same goes for the tard ass Sony ponies that encouraged Sony to eventually go down this route
the PS3 also had some tell-tales that eventually made a lot just leave Playstation for Nintendo. Physical media, It's Ironic that I bring up Nintendo & Physical media (especially with the abomination that is the Switch 2 and much of the Switch 1 games slowly getting updates to secure DRMs so that you don't truly own your Switch 1 games); however, many did make the exodus due to the lack of media ownership with Sony & the fact that Nintendo still had games that were of their tastes & genres (Now, Nintendo is no different than Sony and these niggas just got hoodwinked again)
Add the fact that Sony takes an eternity to produce open world slop with much of your tumblr & SJW politics to suck off fink as well as much of Sony westernizing instead of keeping to its Japanese roots and the company is a shitty husk of itself, ready to crumble
mf had a two jobs to maintain and couldn't even do em, let alone keep their clientele's zealous loyalty. make games that these mf wanna play & make sure that they own these games. now, you're better off using steam instead of a console
edit: how can I forget the fact that Sony was also just focusing on AAA slop that would take almost a decade to develop and not at all focusing on smaller projects to fill the void, such as AA or even smaller games or studios? I mean that's why the PS5 literally has no games in its catalog

This is insomniac’s 4th capeshit game and they’re 4/4 with the “Protagonist goes into dream world to confront inner demons/past trauma” trope. How do they do it ?
Ever watched a mother of a spoiled kid watch her kid cry and feel so strongly for that child that she does whatever she can to comfort them? Like, the kid wants a candy bar at the checkout and starts crying and since she can’t bear to see the child cry, she gives them a candy bar immediately? This is empathy in its worst form; you understand another person’s feelings, but you’re not concerned about the validity of those feelings so much as their existence. You get swept away in the sensation and you forget to go “well, the kid shouldn’t have this much sugar,” or “developing impulse control is important because people without it tend to be insufferable pricks.” Naughty Dog taps into this. They create "expressive", "emotive" characters, and players who don’t think about it will get suckered into the vibes of the moment without considering whether or not those feelings are valid. People have a tendency to overlook shit storytelling if the characters emote powerfully enough for them to ascribe whatever the fuck motives they want. So an audience member sees the giraffe scene in The Last of Us (a scene with really bad setup where Ellie just randomly has a bit of a tiff with Joel and then when they see the giraffes, they reconnect), and they go “aww, this makes me feel fuzzy, therefore, this thing is good.”

You are under the assumption that they fucked up, but looking at some clips on X myself, it looks like the quintessential AAA game. Exactly what modern developers can shit out and what the consumer base will eat up every single time.
Since it is prime Marvel slop, I don't doubt that it will sell decently at worst.

It wasn't retirement, the old guard was ousted, driven out and blacklisted. Any people who held any sort of conservative or traditional values, regardless of their talent, competency or seniority were ostracized, demoted and isolated to the point they "voluntarily" left the industry. As for those that tried to weather the storm and stay true to their values, the lying media made sure to slander them and accuse them of all sort of improprieties. It has even been revealed that the so called Blizzard sex scandals ended up being completely made up bullshit by industry plants like Jason Schreier.
This misshapen goblin faggot lied, slandered and did everything in his power to undermine the culture of meritocracy and the male focused interests that created the gaming industry, all for his own gain. That has always been the tactic of the radicals that took over Western game development, only hiring those who are faithful to the ideology. If you weren't part of that ideological club, regardless of how talented you where or how impressive was your portfolio, if you didn't "believe all women" or had "BLM, ACAB and LGBTQ+" signage decorating your socials, you got the door slammed in your face.

This is why I have no hope whatsoever for the future of Western AAA development, the entire apparatus has been so utterly infiltrated and subverted by a way of thinking that is anathema to competence and excellence. No wonder these studios are adult day-cares paying salaries to people that have failed to delivering a product after nearly a decade. They believe they are owed a job regardless of how shit is their work ethic.
I'm done with the whole thing to the point I'm just playing my old backlog and have zero interest in buying anything new that might be even remotely influenced by these ghouls.
