I just realized that a lot of normie Marvel fans are going to buy the Insomniac Wolverine game sight-unseen and will be disappointed to discover that the character doesn't look or sound like Hugh Jackman. Imagine how much more expensive the game's license would have been if that had been the case. Another reason why the old X-Men Origins game mogs the new one.

Is it just me or are the X-Men character designs clashing with the game's photorealistic art style? The proportions for Sabertooth are all wrong, which would be fine if he wasn't so real looking. Logan has the opposite problem because he's way too mundane.

The woke aspect definitely adds to the uncanniness of this game. This is a true and honest Concord-like

That's almost all Western AAA games now, the realism-slop look. It appears mundane because it is the result of a group of corporate mandated, DEI consultancy influenced development with zero original or boundary pushing artistic vision. These are hive-minded drones tasked with making a generic mass market product, it is not the result of a group of exceptionally talented or passionate individuals coming together to create a fun, never before seen experience because it is a cool idea.

What you are witnessing is the result of an industry that became too mainstream, greedy and agenda driven entering its early stages of decay.

Pseudo realism where it's like 70% photorealisc almost never looks good.

If you don't have the talent or technology for photorealism just go with anime, cell shaded, or some other stylized graphics style rather than that weird uncanny half realism.

Cell shaded in particular is a really good choice because it's practically timeless. There are 30 year old games with cell shaded graphics that still look fucking awesome today.

I would rather get a Ps3 to play my collection than to waste money on a ps5

That new commercial just makes me realize even more how Sony’s games don’t appeal to me. I am fine not being the target customer if you’re just going to show off games like that.

Indeed. If I showed this to someone and told them it was from an upcoming indie game, it would be absolutely believable. Nope, it's almost a quarter century old. Shame Capcom never did more with this, Auto Modellista was an absolute gem. If anyone has any interest in it nowadays, play the PAL version that has much better driving physics.

tasked with making a generic mass market product
Note that they fail at this assignment because their bugman collectivist ideology requires them to worship at the altar of filth and ugliness, so instead of plastering the game with hot women in revealing outfits, they subject audiences to trannies.

And people may say "stop gooning, you fag", but my point is that how female characters are portrayed in a game is always a very good indicator of the mentality of the developers behind it, and who they are making the game for.

What you are witnessing is the result of an industry that became too mainstream, greedy and agenda driven entering its early stages of decay.
The "agenda driven" part is the primary problem here. Nobody expects a modern game with the Marvel license to be some niche, passion-driven project. The previous Wolverine game wasn't either, but at least the people that were making that one understood the assignment, just like the people that made the Deadpool game did, and tried to make a game that did the character justice.

The problem with this game is that the devs are not making a game for the average male normie, they're making a game for themselves, and their own sensibilities have basically zero appeal outside the commiefornia bubble they inhabit. The combat is lame, the gore is lame, the plot is gay, the women are ugly.

The product manages to be both bland and offensive at the same time.

What people wanted was a badass Logan going SNIKT and channeling Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, both in tone and mechanics - it's a genuine crime the came doesn't have the same kind of dismemberment mechanics MGS:R did, with attractive Jean Grey and Mystique in revealing outfits (and even more revealing unlocks).

What they're getting instead is Spider-Man 2 with a Wolverine skin, and are expected to pay premium for the privilege of playing it.

realism is the easiest thing to do art direction for specially at that scale, and makes it easier for the devs to just buy assets in bulk or outsource them to random people. You can't put a random realistic tree in a game with a cartoony art direction, you can't even put any random "cartoon tree" asset because that stuff has to be cohesive and there could be many style discrepancies, but realism is just a default, a realistic tree is just a realistic tree in one game or another, the margin of deviation is much broader.

Concept art being all photobashing and 3d kitbashing of stock assets that already exist is gonna be more cost effective for a bloated team of disparate people, most of which aren't in the same building or the same country than anything with a clear and specific artistic vision.

It all started with todd howard and horse armor.......

X pays you to manufacture drama, so you can't critique Wolverine

Brought to you by the same muppet that gave Spiderman 2 a 9/10 and claimed it was "wonderfully short " and ran at "a stable and cinematic 30 FPS " in a review (Archive) that is absolutely totally 100% authentically not just an unmarked advertisement written by Sony itself.

This guy either is or at least wishes he was an unofficial Sony PR employee.
"Reviews" like this are the only reason why any of these Sony walking simulators have good ratings.

That being said, sure is weird so see someone like this running damage-control for Vulvarine.
Seems like Sony is getting nervous enough about all the shitposting to call in the paid shills.

I'd say Valve's art style strikes a good balance between realistic and cartoony. They're the only AAA company that's able to produce graphics that look better than their previous titles at this point.

You're seeing it right now. Jacking up prices, outright saying they aren't selling the ps6 at a loss, and blatantly stating with no ambiguity that they're no longer caring about increasing the number of playstation owners, but rather extracting the most money from each owner that they can.
AKA The Diablo Immortal model, which was depressingly successful for Blizzard, but that game was precision engineered crack for whales; nothing the PS6 will be able to do will have that kind of draw. I'll be surprised if it can even manage locked 60fps without Performance Mode.
And people may say "stop gooning, you fag",
This shit drives me up the wall, it's just the reverse of HAAS and other delusional bullshit.

No one wants to see Bert Kreischer play John Matrix in Commando, they want someone built like Arnold, and no one wants to see some brick-jawed frumpy bowlcut with a septum piercing and an attitude in an action game, they want a woman who looks aesthetically appealing.
