These illnesses are very traumatic and frequently cause people to feel as if they have been unwillingly ostracized from civil society, friendships and humanity at large.One of my friends is clinically diagnosed with schizophrenia and he never told me until we were friends for more than a year.

People like Springtrap do this because they already lack connection to society and are lead to believe by cartoons, Internet videos, video games and movies that there is a romantic aspect to having debilitating mental illness. That these people are diamonds in the rough trying to persevere against all odds.If they adopted the mantle of "mysterious pitiable illness keeping me down" in order to excuse their own lack of friends, they become one of these heroes of anti-normalcy. Thus begins self diagnoses- the ability to absolve yourself of social responsibility because your actions are controlled by a neuropsychiatric disorder you neither have or know anything about, being a fat white kid.

Because of the real physical causes of mental disorders, I should have asked how common it is for people who imagine they have such disorders to convince themselves of it, so much so that they lose the line between their fantasies and reality. Kind of like a mental placebo.
