Disney+ and Square Enix are reportedly developing a CG-animated Kingdom Hearts TV series.

"I was originally going to publish this as an exclusive article, but apparently a few other insiders have heard about it too so I'm just going to tweet it out I think," The Cinema Spot's Emre Kaya wrote. "There is a [Kingdom Hearts] series in the works at Disney+. Disney originally wanted to make it but that didn't work out, so Square Enix was asked to create a pilot using Unreal Engine. This series is most likely not live-action, but CG animated. They're currently casting."

This report was also corroborated by MCU Cosmic's Jeremy Conrad, who tweeted, "Yes, it's true," along with a GIF of Sora, Donald and Goofy, and The DisInsider Editor-in-Chief Skyler Shuler, who added, "Disney VO actors are expected to reprise their roles (Jim Cummings, Bill Farmer, Tony Anselmo)."

Developed and published by Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts is a series of role-playing games that combine properties from Square Enix (most notably Final Fantasy) and Disney. The games center on Sora, who's chosen to wield a melee weapon called a Keyblade in order to fight creatures called the Heartless and rescue his friends Kairi and Riku. He's joined on his quest by Donald and Goofy, and with the Gummi Ship, they're able to travel across various Disney-inspired worlds.

Over the course of the nine-game series, numerous other antagonists are introduced, including Nobodies, Maleficent and Pete, Organization XIII and the franchise's main foe, Xehanort.

So this is basically the entirety of the KH series' cutscenes minus the actual gameplay? Or are they giving the cartoon (I hate the term "CG animation") an entirely different story? And if so, will it be any sort of cannon to the games aside from the characters? I'm asking just so I know what to expect when KH4 comes out in like 20 years.

I think it'll go for a totally different story with brand new characters. Note how it only said people voicing the Disney characters were expected to be on board. They'll want the series to be an Disney+ exclusive that'll draw more people, and for that it needs more normie appeal. I think current Kingdom Hearts would be deemed to weeby and niche for those purposes.

Or if they're going full blast Nomura autism it'll be a show about that Riku knockoff seen at the end of KH3. I don't know, I thought the fact that say, Sora's VA was conspicuously absent from that was interesting.

Honestly I can understand why people used to make fun of me for playing Kingdom Hearts. I liked the game because of the way how you get to interact with the Disney characters, but I’m noticing that I’m being lumped in with people that think their entire personality lives in Sora and the Disney crew.

That being said, I have no clue why they would do this. They should’ve just announced they’re making a Kingdom Hearts IV.

Did Square-Enix forget this disaster?
