Well I watched all 10 episodes and the first thing I think of when watching any reality TV show is: Exactly how staged is this? After getting over my personal gripes with reality TV and the stupid idea the cutscenes were all the men in pink suits/masks hitting buttons as if they were actually controlling the show as opposed to a bunch of producers in the next room over, I enjoyed it. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, I really enjoyed the actual fictional show and wondered how closesly they would try to make it or adapt it to make it somewhat new. Watching the promo clips I thought it was stupid concept and I almost gave up with the "ink packs" and everyone contractually obligated to "play dead" if eliminated but, I'm glad I stuck in for at least 2 episodes, after that I had to know how it ended. I reccomend it, like I said I would at lest give it 2 episodes to see if it's your thing.

has there ever been a TV show where contestants died if they lost
Ancient Rome had those!

This plays like a basic reality/gameshow, but you see a lot of the "media literate" types hyperventilating over it, "bro you weren't meant to do this in real life!"

"This mass marketed, and corporate produced TV series was actually super deep and you don't understand because it said that being poor in a capitalist society sucks, you people who lack a proper sense of media literacy like I do just don't understand."

It was pretty decent to me. I like the mom and son contestant throughout the game, especially in the first game and the marbles game. Some of the games are altered, though. Tug of War is replaced with Battleship and Squid Game is replaced with A FUCKING ROCK, PAPER, SCISSOR GAME (why can't Westoids be into Squid Game??). Also, the fact that the villain in this show is a shaniqua who works as a "CIVIL RIGHTS INVESTIGATOR" is hilarious and accidentally based..

It would be possible if the contestants were death row inmates but that kind of TV show would violate the 8th Amendment (cruel and unusual punishment).

I jumped to a random point at the first episode and it had some woman in a ridiculous pose, so it seems fake to me.

It's kinda unreal to have a show about how watching people's suffering for entertainment is bad becoming IRL but it's okay since there are no deaths. Like the concept of satire is dead.

Oh yeah, me and the GF both thought that was based AF. Her sister mentioned "I really didn't like who won" before we started watching and here we were watching it thinking
Oh shit, that ratchet bitch who wouldn't do her part in the glass bridge game is going to win it? Nobody saw her stare at her shoes when 301 was waiting for some else to take the lead? She was really unlikable even before I knew she was a professional SJW shit stirrer. I found "blind gift " game very sus of being staged, everyone had a monologue ready to go.

I don't think that was random, not certain why but netflix chose that clip to promote the show. I had the exact same reaction "this is very poorly staged, I hate internal monologue added in post production". I had suspected that from the very beggining just like all reality TV shows, the producers probably had a list of people they really wanted to progress. The very first game seemed very very arbitrary who was eliminated, I think they probably cut out the boring %50 right then and there, I have no way of proving this and all said and done I ended up binge watching the show witht he GF while we were both stuck home with the flu and enjoying it.
