This thread is an excuse for me to ask if anyone knows Sam Kinison's stuff to tell me where he goes "I JUST WANT TO LIVE, OH OOOOHHHH!!!"
 
Eddie Izzard, Mitch Hedberg and Eugene Mirman are my favorites.
 
I used to have nightmares I'd go to Hollywood and find out Mr. T was gay. "Hey boy, you're pretty cute."

I could watch all of this guy's standup endlessly. And his show is amazing.

I also love his commitment to new material. His jokes only have a shelf life of about a year and then he throws all his old material out and writes new stuff.

 
Stephen Lynch, Doug Stanhope, and Bob Newhart are all great.
 
The great Bill has already been mentioned but hey, He's fucking awesome.
Bogs is a man/woman/creature of awesome taste.
(Also George Carlin was pretty fuckin' funny, RIP)

I usually go to at least one show at the Comedy Festival in my city (it's a very big well known festival). But I don't really have a favourite stand up comic and think that most of the really famous ones suck.

As someone who really isn't big on comedy, I gotta say: FUCKING MITCH HEDBERG IS AMAZING!!!!
My history teacher in tenth grade showed us one of his specials and we were all laughing our asses off. His joke about waiting lists at restaurants is just about one of the best things I've ever heard.
