Star Fox General Thread - One of Nintendo’s neglected franchises. Talk about the games and not about furshit.

I did mention earlier in the thread but I will second that Ex-Zodiac is probably the best of the new Star Fox clones. But yes it is also unfinished and new levels come out at an absolute glacial pace. We are now 8 months from the last new level update.

You guys are vaguely making me remember a game called Tail Concerto but it was only cats and dogs for characters with mechs.
Kinda FYI, this game is a part of a series:
  • Tail Concerto for the PS1
  • Solatorobo: Red the Hunter for Nintendo DS expensive as shit due to limited release, you have to be mindful while pirating it because they fucking implemented an anti-piracy measure for some reason
  • And what I believe you heard about: Fuga Melodies of Steel
All these games are taking place in the same universe and kinda connected.

The current line up of "Foxlikes" are:
Whisker Squadron Survivor.
Ex-Zodiac.
FUR Squadron.
FUR Squadron Phoenix
and
Wild Blue Skies.

Honestly not bad but a few of these have lots to be desired out of and some of them dont fill the gap all that well. Also yes, it is my personal feeling that its essentially "FUR Squadron Phoenix > Wild Blue Skies".

Btw, the name of the franchise is "Little Tail Bronx".

So I got a secondhand Wii U to play Star Fox Zero and it's actually....fun. I like the style, I like that Nintendo actually made the effort, as far as possible, to get back the original Star Fox 64 voices, I like that some of the levels are like but not quite like Star Fox 64. Yes, the controls are shit, and the Gyro Wing levels are shit and slow things down massively. And I get people's complaints that the best parts of Zero are just Star Fox 64 again. But, given that all modern Nintendo seems to want to give us is literally Star Fox 64 again but Hire This Man Edition, I'd much much rather Zero with its 'like 64 but not quite 64' type ethos. Zero really feels like Nintendo put in some effort.

I really have no idea why it didn't get a Switch port. There's nothing wrong with it that couldn't be fixed in a Deluxe Edition with better controls, more branching paths and different endings.

It’s probably the lack of a second screen and how dependent it was on the Wii U’s gimmicks.

Near as I can tell, they can still do gyroscopic aiming with the Switch controllers, I think most people would prefer the option to have all the audio coming out of the TV and, as for the aiming, the Wii U game gives you the option to toggle between the gamepad screen and the TV screen, they could easily port that over (or they could just go back to the Star Fox 64 control scheme)

So there is a new teaser for EH that shows General Pepper hiring Star Wolf to stop Star Fox.

I really hate how Pigma looks.

I don't follow EH too closely so I don't know where these cutscenes take place on the timeline, because I'm pretty sure it basically covers the whole stretch of time in the Star Fox 64 continuity while throwing in stuff from the other games wherever it works. But if this takes place after Assault then I really don't like the idea of Pigma ever rejoining Star Wolf after being kicked out prior to the events of that game. But Panther isn't shown here so who knows. I do like that Algy from Star Fox 2 is in a support role, at least

I wouldn't mind trying out Event Horizon but Freespace 2 never goes on a steam sale which is bullshit for such an old game

The Talan Incident takes place before Assault, the cutscene here even implies that Wolf served on the Cornerian fleet that got destroyed by an Aparoid and was dishonorably discharged with the other survivors as a coverup.
Also you can simply download EH via Knossos without the base game. https://knossosnet.github.io/Knossos-Release-Page/ (And even if you want to play freespace mods that require the retail versions or the og campaigns themselves you can just pirate the games and insert them into Knossos.)

I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't gone after EH as hard as they've gone after Metroid fan projedcts. With the scale of the project it feels like they're getting real close to the sun.

Nintendo is probably waiting until it's finished to drop the hammer, then steal everything and copy it.

Some Star Fox Event Horizon fanboy got into hot waters with them feeding someone else’s art into AI.

RealNintenKing took someone else’s Sly Cooper fanart and used AI to edit them into Star Fox characters.

Apparently this guy has a bit of a history.

I know likely getting fed into AI is literally a thing on the internet, but what did this guy actually expect? Have the fandom be like “awwww that’s cool!”

Artists are stuck with the "AI BAD!" message and won't move on no matter what.
At the same time, what did this NintenKing expected? That the Star Fox fandom was gonna ignore and be like “WOAHHH COOL”.

It’s a matter of “what did you expect”.

Because even if he expected the best, even if someone was ok with AI, he knew what kind of fandom he was looking at.
