I really want to get into this game. The Harvest Moon series were some of my favorite games as a kid, and I still play Harvest Moon 64 and Magical Melody every once in a while. The new ones haven't interested me as much. This looks like a return to form, and its success helps assuage any doubt I'd love it.

You definitely want to wait then. From what I've seen, this is one of those "suddenly been playing for hours" type of games. Highly addicting

For the love of GOD wait. It's a game in which you will sit through a four hour season quite happily doing shit and then wonder where all the time went.
Its a gorgeous, addictive game that's very popular because it's so basic and beautiful.

I don't think the people are quite spazzy enough to actually warrant a thread. Maybe there'll be a few nutters here and there, but from what I've seen, the fanbase is remarkably tame.
Then again, I could be wrong.

You know, I guess I don't know what to compare it to because while I play games, generally I don't mod or keep up with the fan shit. When I have modded games, Starbound and Skyrim, I was unprepared for all the crazy porn-modding that was going on. So, when everybody on the subreddit was sperging about making certain people romanceable, adding polyamory and swapping in anime portraits for the characters, I thought "how long until this gets really weird?"
But like I said, I'm a bit of an outsider to game fandom stuff.
Hey can you go gay in the game? I went after Maru hard, and never thought to try anything else...

Yeah, every marriage candidate can be romanced by the same sex. I like how low key it is, personally, and it doesn't feel like pandering or shooting for progressive points. All the events and most of the dialogue is the same for either sex.

Didn't want to make another thread on this, but I haven't played it much since I bought it, mostly because of a few annoyances that could be fixed with mods.
Are there any mods that are recommended, or even better, help de-poz the game/improve portraits? (I imagine stuff like "can't romance the men" mods are banned on mod sites).

It's been a while since I played it, but I don't recall anyone actually coming onto you in the game. Did they change that?

Not much, other than portrait replacers for Maru and Demetrius.
It's probably related to getting a bachelor/ette up to a certain threshold, Harvest Moon style, though I could have sworn the player has to be the initiating party because videya geams. It's also been a long time for me, as well, so I could be mistaken.

Just started a new playthrough after updating to the latest version. The new content so far has been fun and I've been lucky enough with vendors that I'll be doing a first year CC completion. Was going to try the Maru marriage scenario this run just for something different, but then I visited her vendor stall at the desert festival

Well back before the bouquet was added you'd wind up fucking the whole town getting everyone to ten hearts.
Now they're capped at 8 hearts unless you give them a bouquet of flowers, which is an invitation to pound town.
