I just got introduced to Tales from the Crypt by a friend who compared it positively to the Twilight Zone. He stated it was pretty much the Twilight Zone but horror centric.

Has anyone else seen it? I've watched the first season and it's pretty good from what I've seen.

I remember seeing it when I was a kid. I particularly remember the one where Tim Curry plays an inbred family, like the whole family, and this guy shows up at their farm house and the daughter, again played by Tim fucking Curry, falls in love with him.

I remember it fondly. There was one I liked where some old rich guy was trying to get with a young, stuck up model but she wouldn't because he was too old. So he gave away his fortune to a mad scientist to switch his brain out with a beach stud (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) who was selling his body to the old rich guy piece by piece in return for parts of the rich guy's fortune. In the end the woman changed her mind and actually wanted a guy with money and married the beach stud who now had the old man's body and all of his money.

Edit: lol and the intro to that episode is posted right above. :P

It's a pretty good series TBH, if you're interested in stuff like that I suggest you check out Creepshow if you already haven't. It's written by George Romero and Stephen King, and Stephen King has a main role as a farmer who gets into a hairy situation with a darn meteor.

The one with Sam Kinison as the voice of a guy's conscience is great. I wouldn't call the show better than The Twilight Zone by any means, but it's great at the campy, sleazy kind of comic book horror it's designed to be.

I've seen the whole first season, I think. I distinctly remember an episode with a ventriloquist who's dummy was actually a deformed baby-looking thing that he had for a hand, and unfortunately the hand-baby had murderous tendencies! My favorite part though, is after the hand gets severed a guy is chasing it around this shack screaming "You Inbred fucking cabbage patch kid!"

I met John Kassir at a convention two years ago. I pleasantly surprised him by talking about his role in Reefer Madness instead.

This is going to veer right into OT territory but it's a funny story that always reminds me of Tales from the Crypt.
When I was about eight years old, I had a friend whose mother was an insane born again Christian. Like, constantly praying about things that didn't warrant it, not allowing me to bring Barbie dolls to her house because they would make her son think "sinful thoughts", etc. It was weird for me to be around that, but her daughter (my friend) was pretty cool and as well-adjusted as you could expect from an upbringing like that.
Well, one day we're hanging out and we sneak into her parents room which - no joke - had floor to ceiling mirrors all over. Anyway, we went in there because it was the only tv besides the one in the living room and we wanted to watch Tales from the Crypt. Her mother caught us and we got the most insane lecture about how that show is a tool of the devil, and that my friend was going to have to pray.
....I stopped going to her house shortly thereafter and they eventually moved. The thing that always gets me is - and correct me if I'm wrong - Tales from the Crypt was on HBO, which is a premium channel. It always struck me odd that they would pay for a channel that also featured softcore porn. Fukken' bible thumpers, man.

He probably has repeated the story of Tales from the Crypt a million times, and wants to talk about Reefer Madness every so often.

Most born again Christians and Bible thumpers don't really know what the Bible condemns, and use it as justification for condemning something they dislike or don't understand.

Like the Bible lumps people who have tattoos, people who eat shell fish and people who wear clothing of two different fabrics in with homosexuals.

I love Tales From the Crypt. Looking back, that show had some of the worst acting, but it was still good. I actually own the soundtrack to the T.V. show. The episode that "guest starred" Humphrey Bogart is amazing and is one I recommened everyone see. And Cutting Cards. That is the most fucked up but equally hilarious ending I've ever seen.

The Crypt Keeper is amazing.

I remember when I was like 7 and watching this all the time. The Crypt Keeper always calls the audience "kiddies", or he'll say "this next one's for you kiddies" or something like that, and I always hoped that the next story would be video game related because I was 7 and assumed he meant children, and also assumed everything for children was about video games. But it never was.

I forgave him eventually, though.

I loved Tales from the Crypt. I got in to the show because my dad had a lot of the comics and let me read them. It was fun for us to watch an episode and try to find the comic it was inspired by.

It blew my mind when I found out about the HBO series. I mean, I was a 90's kid who loved horror, so I was well versed with Tales from the Cryptkeeper (the animated spinoff).
