For some reason I can't get gifs to work for my avatar. At first I thought it was the new gif I tried to upload, but when I tried a gif I've used previously, that didn't work either. It's animated in the window that pops up when you go to change your avatar, but not in the avatar space itself. I have no idea why this is.

Its caused by timezone differences, probably taking the accounts current time as "last seen" which might be IN THE FUTURE

I logged in on a MacBook and I don't see the sidebar. I'm still using Chrome as I do on my Windows laptop so I don't understand why the site looks different.

whether you see the sidebar or not depends on your browser window width. On mac (1) the display zoom feature properly reports a lower resolution than the physical one and (2) the operating system wants you to not full-screen any window you have, either of which can nudge you below the required window width for seeing the sidebar

I think old ones still work. It isn't in the display of the avatar, it's in whatever ImageMagick package (or whatever) converts the avatar from what you upload to what gets displayed. Probably one line in a script somewhere.

1) Being blamed for terrorist attacks
2) Being legislated against or sued

When I try to display image attachments from other posts, they only come up as links and don't display in mine. I don't know if that is by design, but it would save users effort and space on server space if you could just reuse a relevant image from a different post.
