Feedback Technical Grievances

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
The "Next Highlight" button takes you to the first highlight in the pages *after* the current one, but I think the top button should take you to a highlight on the current page if one exists. Is that possible?
It does do that for about 2-3 weeks now. Did it break again? Worked for me day before yesterday.

EDIT: still works here on Firefox. I just checked.

I've noticed memory leaks in Firefox on the Kiwi Farms home page, but only the home page. I can leave a thread page open and it doesn't seem to leak. I haven't tested other browsers.

My assumption is that SneedChat (which is towards the bottom of the home page) eats memory if left open.

I think you're right, I wanted to try it alone with a couple open threads and didn't experience any memory issues, only on the front page with sneedchat. It'd be nice to see some sort of feature to stop updating the chat after being afk for a period of time, but that's easy enough to at least avoid having open now. I'm keeping note of that in the future and going back to Firefox.
I blocked the sneedchat box and left the homepage open for a while. No spikes in memory or cpu usage. If you don't use the chat at all, I recommend you to block it with uBlock Origin or Brave's built-in element blocker.

Funny you mention that because I was thinking about doing that and only accessing chat in private mode. Not just for CPU usage either, but in some ways having an uneasy feeling that if there's going to be a massive vulnerability for this site, it would have something to do with that poorly constructed chatroom. I'm not sure if sneedchat was based off any other software or made from scratch, but it doesn't fill me with a ton of assurance when the chat gradually tanks my computer just by being on the homepage in the background. I was looking under the hood and it fills me with even less assurance seeing the chat applet's url being https://kiwifarms.st/test-chat, also known as "Rust Chat". I'm not dissing Josh, but the chat gives me the impression of being vibe coded to an extent.

Hypothetically speaking, if I was a massive autist trying to get revenge, my eyes would be directly locked on that chat applet. Think about it, sneedchat autoloads for every single logged in user on the homepage even if they've never used the chatroom. It would be damning if an overlooked flaw did something like exposing IP addresses of everyone in the chatroom, or finding a way to crash a client’s page through the chat. I guess it comes with using this site and general OPSEC as the registration suggests, so I could just be fear mongering. Over all though, I don’t think it’d hurt to have a manual join button since the chat has performance issues. There’s probably a good amount of users not aware they're technically in it

I think this is how the 2019 hack was executed, session token stealer in an embedded opus file.
I still wish it was only on the /chat page, rather than accompanying me across the site like Kirpainer, but it's not a big deal.

I've just tried a couple of times just now to access the Russian and the Israel-Iran threads in Happenings (Tor via Brave) and something happens that makes my browser shut itself down. I've been able to read the Rowling thread in communities, and various tranny ones in the Stinkditch so it's not a site-wide thing, just on the last pages of those threads.

quote within a quote within a spoiler button is unscrollable

Trying to open that spoiler leads to Brave crashing on me. Someone seems to have left a few of these bombs scattered over the site.
On mobile it shows "click to expand" at the bottom and works.

can we quote replys in threads we're banned in? what if i'm banned in a sports thread and i see something i wanna quote to random text? etc etc. ofc screenshots but still.

Create a
Code:
[quote]
tag to match the post you're trying to quote.

In this case, replying to your post generated this:
Code:
[QUOTE="Fuck Fags I'm A Homophobe, post: 21723094, member: 176965"]
Replace the username with the username you're quoting, the post number with the post number (right clicking the # on the upper right gets you that) and the member number with the member you're quoting.

Paste in the text you want and close the quote tag. Cut and paste that over to the thread you want to post it in.

I'm not even going to ask how you managed to get banned from a sports thread.

Has anyone else gotten an abnormal amount of Kiwiflares while browsing the site? The frequency is not something like hourly or anything but I experience them much more than I usually have before.

It also seems like it only happens when opening a users profile. It would take a while to load, the CSS would be broken, you refresh and you get Kiwiflare right on your screen.

Edit: Lol I just got one right now again. I tried to click on some usernames in a thread and it wasn't loading anything. Refreshed and I got Kiwiflare. The site is also very slow for me right now.

Videos that I post using the Xenforo feature to shrink their thumbnail size no longer appear at all. Older posts that I did this too are also effected. This post used to feature two clips of Ethan Ralph falling asleep on his show, but now there's nothing there:
I'm also getting an error that my pending post in the same thread is "too long" even though my post hardly has anything in it (expect these videos that have huge thumbnail sizes, which I normally would shrink before posting). I feel like these issues are connected somehow.
