Feedback Technical Grievances

Have you ever, ever heard of the expression "Brevity is the Soul of Wit"?
Yes. I use it sparingly though since it remains difficult to convey complex ideas and structures in limited wording.

My animated avatar is an example of my brevity in action.

In any case, I have been here for like 7 years. Everyone knows exactly what my posts are like by now.

Here's a good example of a user who has mastered the skill of brevity and adds such quality and depth to the discussion:

(PS: the irony of being told my posts are too long when I was reprimanded for using a fairly well known source called Firstsquawk that literally just posts news tidbit updates in like less than 10 words is not lost on me)

your avatar actively prevented me from reading the iran news thread because it flashed in my eye constantly and you were present in the thread 4 times per page. i couldn't even skip past you.

Have you tried this: "hey, your avatar is a bit too much, like it was funny for a while, could you tone it down a bit or get something a little less abrasive?"

I remember ages ago you had a thing about embracing the quality of good users on the forum. Like if someone was really good at something, why interfere with it?

I post obsessively on topics I am interested in. I have always done so - I have posted the same on massive news stories like the Luigi shooter shit. I post the most informative stuff I can find and generally try to add to the discussion.

I can't say that I've ever received complaints about this from anyone - it seems bizarre that I post high quality stuff and you somehow take issue with that. There are other people in that thread posting 4 times per page also.

Again - the "competition" if I don't post is this:

What does post quality have to do with the avatar
You are saying that I was posting so much and my avatar was everywhere - its pretty evident there is a link there. If my avatar gets slayed like it currently has it feels like I'm being punished just for posting a lot and using sources that some mod doesn't agree with.

My avatar is like an extension of my personality in some ways. Now it is frozen in a miserable/concerned look and I don't really like it like that. My avatar permissions have been removed entirely and the eyebrows on my avatar no longer move. It may sound really stupid and trivial but I love the fact that when people screenshot my avatar its either in the current miserable state or a more evil looking avatar - it changes and is unstable, its a bit wild and a bit wacky. It's a forum avatar - it's like 90% of a user's personality on a forum (even if someone has no avatar it is still memorable)

I think my avatar is literally perfect and follows me around on this here webforum and is heavily linked with my personality and style. It feels like a punishment for "posting too much" in a topical news thread about potential ww3 breaking out. Like who cares if I'm posting a lot on a highly topical subject with informative updates and discussing the topic at hand?

And again, no one has just said "hey, your avatar is a bit too much, could you tone it down or make it a bit simpler" - if someone who is a mod had asked me that directly I would've respected it since I generally respect the mods and you for the most part. I get that I'm a bit divisive with my use of penultimate or posting really long effort posts (I still find it amazing that people complain about this on a fucking forum) and I push the boundaries a bit and sometimes a lto, but I still respect you and the rest of the mods here. My avatar is silly and a bit annoying but I like it because its like unstable and I don't want to use another avatar.

I research things heavily and try to contribute well to threads and I've had the same avatar for literally a year and it has been everywhere seemingly without issue. If you particularly dislike it I can just change it back to an older and simpler one, its not a big deal, but for now my avatar privileges have been removed entirely because I guess you didn't like my avatar that I've consistently used for more than a year and has appeared on multiple livestreams of yours - if you want me to tone down the avatar so its a bit less abrasive you could just ask me to do so.

It's still hard to fathom that people on a web forum complain about long posts and posting too much on highly interesting and novel topics that are often in the category of breaking news. My posts start discussions and I love to have discussions about all the weird various things on here in a longer format and with more stable identifiers (username + avatar) than something like an imageboard or the Xitty.

edit: I still can't believe the absurdity of people complaining about me effort posting and long posting on a forum and that out of everything on this forum my avatar is somehow so divisive that it needs to be hidden away:

nigger. a flashing gif is distracting, a still image is not. if you post a lot then instead of 1 distracting gif its multiple distracting gifs.
multiple distracting gifs are more distracting than one distracting gif
are you purposefully not understanding this so you can act like a victim?

I don't want a gif avatar that is two binary things blinking back and forth. it doesn't matter how quality you think your posts are. if there is a big flashing thing right next to them they are still annoying.
How about this, its the one I used very early on:
81fb9f1a7620872448dbb341014ef6ee3e2c128b.gif

It doesn't flash as much and is a lot simpler.

edit: thank you null, my dignity has been restored.

I've always wanted a way to make gif avatars static in preferences. Maybe it could be for supporters and you.

I use this add-on, it's great.

Edit: I reported an issue here, but I realized it was caused by updating my GPU drivers. I restarted my PC and now everything's OK.

If the latest person to post in a watched thread is on your ignore list, it doesn't show the thread in your watchlist (on the front page).

However, it does show if you click through to /watched/threads page.

I apologize if this issue has been mentioned already, but I notice certain attachments don't attach. It shows the upload progress bar but it doesn't show the option to insert/or the MIME/file type icon. After posting it disappears. I am using Tor Browser.
