In ancient China, there was a specialized death Terminology in each social class, and it was may not to be confused or used indiscriminately Otherwise, it will be considered a crime of rebellion

These death Terminology are respectively

Emperors and posthumously honored emperors————The mountain has fallen(崩)
Kings, high-ranking nobles, and members of the royal family————The grand pass away(薨)
Ordinary nobles————The Eternal sleep(卒)
Civil servants and hereditary military personnel————The No longer enjoying benefits(不禄)
common people————die(死)

Don’t forget Poe, these creepy guys.

IIRC they only used the top 3 of those in Japan, one for the Emperor, one for high ranking princes and ministers, and one for lower ranking ministers (which included the most prestigious samurai). The top two are still used and used for foreign leaders too, like when they announced Hitler's death in 1945.
