Terry Gilliam: I’m ‘Tired’ of White Men Being ‘Blamed for Everything That is Wrong’ in the World

Terry Gilliam’s mind is on the #MeToo movement, his self-identification as a “melanin-light male”… and says he has had enough of white males “being blamed for everything that is wrong with the world.”
“We’re living in a time where there’s always somebody responsible for your failures, and I don’t like this,” Gilliam said of the #MeToo movement in a Saturday interview with The Independent. “I want people to take responsibility and not just constantly point a finger at somebody else, saying, ‘You’ve ruined my life.'”
The director went on to suggest that Harvey Weinstein’s accusers were to blame for the “choices” they made.

“There are many victims in Harvey’s life,” Gilliam said, “and I feel sympathy for them, but then, Hollywood is full of very ambitious people who are adults and they make choices. We all make choices, and I could tell you who did make the choice and who didn’t. I hate Harvey. I had to work with him and I know the abuse.”

He continued: “I can tell you about a very well-known actress coming up to me and saying, ‘What do I have to do to get in your film, Terry?’ I don’t understand why people behave as if this hasn’t been going on as long as there’ve been powerful people. I understand that men have had more power longer, but I’m tired, as a white male, of being blamed for everything that is wrong with the world. I didn’t do it!”
During the 2018 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, the former Monty Python member said he tells “the world now I’m a black lesbian” in response to calls to diversify the field of comedy.

“I don’t like the term black or white. I’m now referring to myself as a melanin-light male. I can’t stand the simplistic, tribalistic behaviour that we’re going through at the moment,” he told The Independent, referring to his older comments.
“I’m talking about being a man accused of all the wrong in the world because I’m white-skinned. So I better not be a man. I better not be white. OK, since I don’t find men sexually attractive, I’ve got to be a lesbian. What else can I be? I like girls. These are just logical steps.”
Gilliam’s latest film, “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” will roll out in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin and other top markets starting April 19. The film will also be released on all major VOD platforms on the 19th, as well, and will continue to expand theatrically throughout the spring and beyond.

This poor man is about to be crucified for the white man's sins. But perhaps only an aging comedian with nothing to lose is capable of speaking truth to power nowadays.

While I’m a POC lol I’m glad to see people speaking up at how absurd sjw pc is. I hope he doesn’t get “canceled” and instead it becomes a conversation to reach a middle point. I know a few people who considered themselves leftists but got tired of being blamed and made feel like they were monsters and instead turned into alt right sperglords which is understandable. I’m tired of fucking people using gender and race as crutches. Where is personal accountability and pride? Fuck

The thing is people ARE listening, they just can't say anything because the opposite opinion is backed by more money than God themselves. And if you do attempt to say anything, they'll come for your job, your family and your life.

Also if you look at Terry Gilliam's life, he's been completely fucked over by fate many, many times. And he's always taken responsibility. So to see people blame an entire race for their own fuck ups...yeah, you can see how he would have this opinion.

It's okay to be white.

Once again a white person goes and blames the innocent SJWs just for daring to hold him accountable for original sin. If he didn't want to be blamed for all the world problems he shouldn't have been born white.

Honestly though, I think this is partially a tactical move on his part. Movie coming out in a few months. The last movie where a director criticized woke culture before the release made a billion dollars. If it goes wrong and he's `cancelled for life who gives a fuck? He's 79.

He obviously wants to say these things as well though. He could have been much more moderate with the same effect but instead he went full fuck you I identify as a black lesbian. He can speak his mind and nobody can do shit about it.

The director went on to suggest that Harvey Weinstein’s accusers were to blame for the “choices” they made.

Not that it excuses Weinstein (nor the countless people in Hollywood like him), but he's right. Hollywood isn't some European hostel picking up starving or drug-addicted kids and making them "work" to survive. A lot of these aspiring actors or actresses come from well-to-do families and, if you asked them privately, wouldn't hesitate to sexually please some slimeball producer if it meant a lucrative contract.

I mean.. Yeah? I don't think any sane and sound minded individual actually thinks that white men alone are the cause of all current problems. Emphasis on sound minded, though. The fact that frenzied shitstorms are constantly stirred when someone says anything that isn't 'woke' has quickly gotten old. It's generalizing entire groups as all good or bad, which.. I thought was bad by woke logic?

Hes totally right, but i'm already bracing for the impending Twitter outrage :story:

He's totally right.

They're going to crucify him.

I mean what's baffling to me is: he is so right about the "metoo" stuff, it's painful.

Harvey Weinstein is a piece of shit. But, I remember credible rumors of his POS behavior: going all the way back to the 90's.

The man had a very open poor reputation.

So, when I see Meryl Streep grandstanding about this shit(she knew this was going on for years): I go, "Bitch, you took roles from this motherfucker. You applauded him in public"

Nobody presents the fact ALOT of women enabled this shit.

You wanna why? We patronize the fuck out of women. We treat them like babies while saying their equal. The sad part, because of pop feminism/coddling, many women have no problems with this...

People need to watch "A Man for All Seasons". Having principles is not out of convenience....
