The music video for this track is pretty amusing. It's nice to see Zakk doesn't take himself too seriously.

How I imagine every BLS fan in my head. Not too far off from the crowds I've seen in person.

Honestly it's not too bad, it's a pretty chill "dudebro" band with a chill "dudebro" crowd, almost all of them being adjacent Pantera fans (for obvious reasons).

Up until "Mafia" their work was pretty catchy, even if many people like to rip on Zakk for being such a "gimmicky" guitarist. I think their "1 album every year" formula hurt the band, they kinda lost me with their later albums.

Another band most BLS fans usually like is Crowbar.

The 2 Merciless 80's demos got restored and compiled finally. Released soon.

Love me some wigger slam
I really hate this new brodude-safe-PC-borderline-ironic-demeanor "slam" now with significant hardcore influences. Like why is it so hard to bring back the ultra gory artwork, "misogynistic" lyrics, and edgy attitudes. The moment hardcore and deathcore faggots found slam is when it died and it just got worse from there.

I fear we will never go back to this:

You know it's real true slam when every single video embed has to be censored / age restricted 💀

A few recommendations from the best new stuff I heard in January:

Iron Griffin - Gate Tower
This EP sounds even more rugged and ancient than the usual IG material. Maija (a woman) doesn't sing on this, Oskari does, which definitely adds to its more rough sound. Good ol' epic trad metal.

Drunk Thrasher - Posercorpses
Dunno what it is about this project that hits me so hard, but one dude (from Poland) just belting out primitive lo-fi necro thrash and not giving a fuck about trends is awesome. He's actually managed to add a lot of dynamics to his solo thrash which is kinda unique for one-man bands. Closing the EP out with an instrumental track was an odd choice though... but still a good thrashing time.

Larvae - Arousal of the Crawling Creature
Seems like these Italians have finally found their sound, because this absolutely smokes their previous material. The mixture of Impetigo-style death/grind and weird doom is really cool. The title track is so demented and acid-tinged, I love it.

Asedio - La interminable lucha
A truly great and passionate Chilean heavy metal EP by the lads in bands like Critical Defiance, Demoniac and Ripper. I have no fucking clue what the singer is saying but I'm trying to sing along anyway! No fat to trim here either, just pure headbanging fist-pumping metal glory.

Pentagram - Lightning in a Bottle
Regardless of how you might feel about Bobby or how his vocals have aged, the band sounds fucking amazing right now. That 70's swagger/groove is definitely in full swing here.

Sanguisugabogg is the only that's really overtly liberal. I still find stuff like Infectious Jelqing fun.

And apparently Dripping is back together if you want silly drug influenced slam

Classic album I would recommend to even people who dont like slam.

And on a different note, Kommodus came out with a new album I missed and it's excellent as always. He's gotta be secretly based being interested in Mishima and the Roman empire and being an Australian playing black metal.

That album is from 2023. Latest/newest release from Kommodus is the split with Celestial Sword from last year.

He did another split in 2023 after the album you posted.

Goatowarex is doing a lot of represses and some merch at the moment.
