I'm seeing so much astroturfing about the "HUGE SLAYER REUNION TOUR 2025!!!!11!!@!! 😱😱😱" like it's been some insurmountable number of years. Like all of the members have been languishing in obscurity far away from any type of musical instrument, all decrepit and gnarled as their muscles atrophy.

It's only been about five years since they decided to "retire." I've been waiting for new material from bands for twice, thrice, and even four times longer than that (Dawn is a perfect example). You can't go a week without reading an article where their members make a hot take or snipe at one another or discuss their "legacy" or whatever.

I never got into Slayer, nowadays they remind me of a band like Kiss, not so much as a creative force but instead a brand totally dependent on a carefully curated image. Hanneman dying was a pretty clear marker of their decline.

It's all so tiresome.

New Ghost single out :

If this even counts as metal.
I shit on Ghost but only to make the "Ghost is metal" people mad. If you like it then you like it, whatever. But the first song I heard from them, after seeing them referred to as a metal band, was "Rats"... most Disney sounding shit I heard in my life. Fucking Disney metal. If they are metal then Imagine Dragons is metal.

I have completely forgotten about Ghost since the 2nd album or so. So I checked their Metal Archives page.

Whenever you see a "The band was accepted into the Metal Archives based on ..." you know things are bad.

Thought I'd hear into some of their newer stuff, clicked on their bandcamp and ...

... the one Metal album isn't even listed there.

The lack of the first record can be explained due to Rise Above holding the rights, Lee Dorrian was never known to cut his golden gooses loose.

HHR reissued Immolation's Metal Blade releases on picture disc and I just couldn't resist, had to get all three.

Brent Hinds has suddenly left Mastodon after 25 years of psychedelic progressive metal goodness. Fucking sad day man their chemistry was great, never any drama or egos clashing just great ever evolving music. They've been a 4 piece for 25 years who the hell could possibly replace him and keep that good chemistry going?

The founder of Ghost had a death metal band called Repugnant that was excellent. But death metal rarely pays the bills, and Ghost is pretty successful, so Repugnant remains on hold.
